Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Polmarine? It’s tucked right on West Street in this impossibly charming fishing village that honestly feels like someone’s kept it as their little secret. I mean, Polruan sits across the water from Fowey, and while everyone’s heard of Fowey, this side feels completely untouched by the usual tourist circus. The hotel itself is this gorgeous period building that’s been done up with real care – not the kind of renovation where they strip out all the character, but where they’ve actually enhanced what was already there.

The rooms are proper comfortable (we’re talking Egyptian cotton and views that’ll make you forget to check your phone), and here’s the thing about that 9.5 rating – it’s completely earned. The staff actually know the area, like really know it. They’ll tell you which path down to the water gets muddy when it’s been raining, or that the little passenger ferry to Fowey runs every fifteen minutes during summer but you might wait a bit longer off-season. Speaking of which, if you’re here in July or August, book that ferry ride early in the morning – by afternoon it’s packed with day-trippers. The hotel breakfast, by the way, sources from local suppliers, and you can taste the difference. None of that industrial stuff you get at chain places.

What really sets Polmarine apart is how it sits in the village rather than dominating it. You can walk out the front door and be at the harbor in about two minutes, watching actual working boats come and go. There’s this wonderful rhythm to the place – morning coffee while the fishing boats head out, afternoon walks along the coastal path (the section toward Lantic Bay is absolutely stunning), then back for dinner at one of the village pubs. The Old Quay House down the road does excellent seafood, though honestly, the hotel can point you toward half a dozen spots depending on what you’re after. Parking can be a bit tight in the village center, but the hotel sorts that out – just mention it when you book. The whole area gets genuinely quiet after about 9 PM, which is either perfect or potentially boring depending on what you’re looking for. For me, falling asleep to the sound of water lapping against the harbor wall beats traffic noise any day of the week.

  The location was perfect, with fantastic views.
  The location was very central and great for coastal walks with the dog.
  
  What could be improved: We enjoyed everything about our stay but be warned Polruan is not a suitable place to visit if you have mobility issues. It's very hilly and lots of steps.

  The amazing views over the estuary from the balcony. Lots of things to do without needing to use the car. A very nice apartment with everything you could need. The host was very welcoming and helpful.

  Absolutely incredible place. Waking up right on the water, sipping coffee on the balcony overlooking the harbour, going down the steps from the front porch straight into the sea for a swim. Nothing could have been better. Bed was super comfy and facilities were great. We loved it. Thank you X
