Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels around Cornwall, and honestly, Penventon Park caught me off guard – in the best way possible. When you first pull up, it’s this gorgeous Georgian manor house that feels properly grand without being stuffy, you know? The building dates back to the 1700s, and you can tell they’ve put real effort into keeping that historic character while actually making it comfortable for modern travelers.

What really struck me was how they’ve managed to capture that classic English country hotel vibe without falling into the trap of being overly precious about it. The rooms are spacious (which isn’t always a given in these old buildings), and mine had this lovely view over the parkland – actual parkland, not just a fancy name for a small garden. The bed was properly comfortable too, which I mean, sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many supposedly nice hotels get that wrong. Parking was straightforward, right on-site, which is honestly a relief when you’re navigating Redruth’s narrow streets with luggage.

Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they get there – you’re actually perfectly positioned for exploring both the mining heritage sites and the coast. Redruth gets overlooked because everyone rushes straight to St. Ives or Padstow, but you’re literally fifteen minutes from some incredible beaches and surrounded by all this fascinating industrial history. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too, not just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this brilliant little walk through the old mining landscape that I never would have found otherwise. The restaurant’s solid – nothing revolutionary, but proper local ingredients done well, and the Sunday roast was exactly what you want after a day tramping around the Cornish countryside. It’s the sort of place where you can actually relax in the evening without feeling like you need to dress up or put on a performance. Plus, with that 8.7 rating, clearly I’m not the only one who thinks they’ve got the balance just right.
