Hotel Description
You know what really struck me about the Penrose? It’s right there on The Terrace – and I mean literally right on it – so you’re basically in the heart of Lostwithiel but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy at all. The building itself has this lovely Georgian thing going on, and honestly, from the moment you walk up, it feels more like you’re visiting someone’s really well-appointed home than checking into a B&B. The owners clearly know what they’re doing here, and that 9.5 rating isn’t just people being generous.
What actually sets this place apart is how they’ve nailed all the little details that most places mess up. The rooms are proper comfortable – not just Instagram pretty, but actually livable. The beds are the kind where you wake up and think “oh right, this is what good sleep feels like.” And the breakfast (obviously crucial at a B&B) is done with local ingredients without making a huge fuss about it. I mean, you’re in Cornwall, so the bacon and eggs are going to be better than what you get in London anyway, but they really lean into that advantage. The coffee’s strong, which matters more than people admit.
Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned for exploring both the town and the wider area. Lostwithiel’s got that lovely medieval bridge and the castle ruins – you can walk to both in about two minutes. But what I really appreciated was being able to park easily (not a given in Cornwall) and then just wander down to the river or pop into the antique shops without dealing with car drama. If you’re planning day trips, you’re only about twenty minutes from the Eden Project, and the coastal paths around Fowey are absolutely worth the short drive. The owners actually know the area properly and give solid recommendations – not just the obvious tourist spots, but places locals actually go. It’s that kind of place where you end up staying an extra night because you realize you’ve found something good, and honestly, at this level of quality, that’s exactly what you want from a Cornwall getaway.
