You know what struck me first about Park Farmhouse? It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down before you even get out of the car. I mean, you’re driving through this proper Cornish countryside near Wadebridge – rolling fields, stone walls, the works – and then there’s this beautiful farmhouse sitting there like it’s been waiting for you. The approach down their lane actually gives you time to decompress from whatever motorway madness you’ve just escaped. Parking’s dead easy too, which honestly is a relief after trying to squeeze into some of those cramped village spots you get around here.

The thing about staying at a working farmhouse B&B is that it feels completely different from your standard hotel experience. Sarah and David (the owners) have this way of making you feel like you’re staying with friends rather than just checking into another room. Their 4-star rating isn’t some inflated number either – you can tell they’ve put real thought into the details. The rooms have that perfect balance of period character and modern comfort, with proper thick walls that keep things quiet and beds that actually let you sleep past 6 AM (unlike some places where you hear every footstep upstairs). The breakfast… well, let’s just say you’ll understand why they’ve got a 9.7 rating once you taste their full Cornish spread. They source most ingredients locally, and you can actually taste the difference.

What I really love about the location is how it puts you right in the sweet spot for exploring this part of Cornwall. You’re close enough to Wadebridge that you can walk or cycle into town along the Camel Trail – seriously, rent bikes from one of the shops in town and follow the old railway line, it’s brilliant. But you’re also tucked away enough that you get proper countryside peace in the evenings. The coast is only about fifteen minutes by car, so you can easily hit Padstow for dinner (though honestly, book ahead because Rick Stein’s empire means the whole town gets rammed in summer). Rock and Polzeath beaches are right there too if you fancy some proper Atlantic coastline. The owners know all the good spots locals go to – the quiet coves, the best pubs that haven’t been completely overrun, where to get the freshest crab sandwiches. They’ll point you toward places like the Shipwright’s Arms in Helford if you want a proper local experience rather than tourist central. Even in peak season, staying here feels like you’ve found a little pocket of authentic Cornwall that hasn’t been completely theme-parked yet.
