Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Cornwall hotels, and Parc Trethias genuinely surprised me. It’s tucked away in St Merryn – you know, that village that most people blow through on their way to Padstow without giving it a second thought. Actually, that’s part of what makes this place work so well. You get that proper Cornish countryside feel without the tourist circus that Padstow can turn into during peak season.

The property itself feels more like someone’s really nice country estate than a typical hotel, if that makes sense. I mean, the moment you pull up the drive (and yes, parking is actually sorted – no hunting around village streets with your bags), you can tell someone’s put real thought into this place. The buildings have that weathered stone look that’s genuinely old, not the fake heritage stuff you see everywhere. What really got me though was how quiet it is at night. You’re close enough to civilization that you can walk to the village pub – The Cornish Arms does a decent pint, by the way – but far enough out that you’ll actually hear owls instead of traffic.

Honestly, the rooms are where they really nail it. Everything feels substantial, you know? Proper thick curtains that actually block out light, beds that don’t creak when you turn over, and bathrooms where the shower pressure doesn’t give up halfway through. I stayed in one of their garden rooms and the view across the fields toward the coast was… well, it’s the kind of thing that makes you understand why people move to Cornwall and never leave. The staff seem to get that balance right too – they’re around when you need them but they’re not hovering or doing that overly chatty thing that can get exhausting. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that endless form-filling nonsense.

Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned for the north coast beaches. Constantine Bay is maybe ten minutes in the car, and if you’re into surfing or just want that proper Atlantic beach experience, you can’t do much better. Padstow’s close enough for dinner – Rick Stein’s empire and all that – but you’re staying somewhere with actual character instead of fighting for a parking space every time you come back. The coastal path is practically on your doorstep too, which means you can do those dramatic clifftop walks without the usual crowds you get at the more famous spots. I did notice they get busier during school holidays, but even then it never felt cramped or chaotic. That 9.6 rating isn’t just people being generous – this place genuinely delivers on what it promises, which is rarer than it should be these days.

The place was fantastic, very well cared for and very well equipped. We're only sorry we couldn't stay longer. It was easy to get to places. We had a really great time and our host was available for any issues that might arise, but none did. We had always avoided caravan parks, but we were very impressed. The access to the park, by car, was very good. We definitely recommend Helen's place and we hope to come again. We had lovely walks close by, in Porthcothan and Constantine Bay. We visited Tintagel, of course and we had a lovely breakfast in Padstow at the Cherry Blossom.

What could be improved: The roads are narrow, so one needs to be careful. It's not very private, as expected in a caravan park, but there were curtains all around and we had absolutely no issues. Also, just for information, you do need a car to stay here, there's no transport.

    Home from home

    What could be improved: Wasn’t

  • Timothy from United Kingdom – 9 September 2024 (9/10)

The location was good and easy to find. The property was very well equipped. We needed for nothing. The host had left some lovely little touches e.g milk in the fridge and biscuits. It was like a home from home stay. Would definitely like to return.😊

What could be improved: The lack of recycling options.

  • Chloe from United Kingdom – 3 June 2024 (10/10)

Spacious, tidy and an ideal location. Comfortably hosted a group of 5 and it’s clear that Helen is an efficient and thoughtful host!

  • Karen from United Kingdom – 23 April 2024 (10/10)

Exceedingly neat with everything you need provided. It’s clear that Helen is a thoughtful host as the property has all the comforts of home with lots of lovely touches like plenty of space to store things.

What could be improved: Nothing! It was perfect for our family of 5

  • Sionagh from United Kingdom – 28 January 2024 (10/10)

Property was just like a Home from home, lovely and spacious

  • Lisa from United Kingdom – 11 December 2023 (10/10)

Very spacious, clean and very well equipped.

The venue bar and shop are handy to have on site.

What could be improved: Could have done with more pillows.

Also more parking would have been beneficial.

  • Alex from United Kingdom – 5 October 2023 (10/10)

Fantastic little holiday property – spotlessly clean and well equipped, very peaceful and relaxing and a short drive from amazing beaches and Padstow itself ! Absolutely faultless

  • Richard from United Kingdom – 27 May 2023 (9/10)

The overall facilities, comfort and cleanliness. There was heating (plug in fire plus heating system) and the TV was huge and had all catch-up services and Netflix. Good big kitchen, with stovetop and oven. Beds were very comfortable.

What could be improved: The fact that we were told we needed to bring our own towels, sheets, duvet cover etc only AFTER we had paid the non-refundable fee! There was no oven-glove…a big problem if you use the oven! No suitable alternative was provided. Otherwise the kitchen seemed fairly well equipped.

  • Andrew from New Zealand – 23 August 2023 (9/10)

Very nicely presented, clean and tidy. Large enough to cater for a family of 6 adults adequately. Ensuite bathroom was a bonus, if a little small. Pleasant location on a site with other similar properties.
Everything was as described, no surprises.
