You know what caught me off guard about the Oystercatcher? It’s actually tucked right into North Street – like, properly in the heart of Fowey – but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy at all. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Bodinnick ferry and all the waterfront action, but the moment you step inside, there’s this genuine boutique hotel vibe that feels more like staying at a really stylish friend’s place than some generic seaside spot.

The thing is, Fowey can get absolutely mental during peak summer (especially when the regatta’s on), but the Oystercatcher sits just far enough up from the main harbour chaos that you’re not dealing with crowds stumbling past your window at midnight. The staff actually seem to know the town – not just the obvious tourist bits, but they’ll tell you things like when the tide’s best for the Polruan ferry or which local pub has the better crab sandwiches. Honestly, the attention to detail is what got me. The rooms have this proper Cornish coastal thing going on without being all nautical-themed and cheesy about it. Think natural textures, really good linens, and windows that actually open properly so you can hear the gulls and smell that salt air. The bathrooms are lovely too – decent water pressure, which you honestly can’t take for granted in these old Cornish buildings.

What really sold me on the place was breakfast, though. They source everything locally (and I mean actually locally, not just “somewhere in Cornwall”), and the coffee’s properly good. You can sit there planning your day while watching the early dog walkers heading down to Readymoney Beach, or if you’re lucky enough to snag a room with a harbour view, you’ll see the working boats heading out before most tourists are even awake. The 9.6 rating makes total sense when you experience it – it’s that sweet spot where everything just works without feeling stuffy or trying too hard. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in Fowey generally, but they’ve sorted that out for you, which honestly takes a massive stress off the whole experience. I’d definitely go back, and that’s saying something because I’m usually the type who likes to try somewhere new each time.

  Perfect location overlooking the water. Exceptionally clean and beautifully decorated. Everything you would need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Very reasonable public parking in the Old Station Yard car park, which is just a few minutes walk. Shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, bakeries etc just a few minutes walk. Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Oystercatcher. The location is perfect – a short walk away from the shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants one way and a short walk to the car park the other way. The view is lovely and even though we stayed during storm Bert we still spent our mornings gazing out of the window in the warm! The apartment looks as if it's been recently refurbished – it's been done to a really high standard and was exceptionally clean – we didn't want to leave!

  A lovely apartment with everything we needed for our stay. The views were amazing from the many windows. We enjoyed sitting and watching life on the river. There were some interesting local history booklets provided that I enjoyed looking through. The bed was very comfortable and the shower powerful. It was a short walk to the centre of fowey for a pastry or a browse. Some lovely walks too. We could park the car nearby without negotiating the narrow fowey streets.

  Perfect location, exceptional views, well designed and very comfortable, everything catered for. Parking very convenient and inexpensive at nearby Caffe Mill.

  The property is in a great location, close to the main car parks and only a short walk to the town centre. The views from the apartment are stunning, you can literally spend hours just looking outside the window watching the world go by! The TV was hardly ever on!
  The attention to detail is exquisite and the property beautifully designed.
  
  What could be improved: We had read previous reviews about the noise levels from the property below and yes at times we could hear the other guests. We were also mindful ourselves not to stomp around, but it didn't detract from our stay.
