So here’s the thing about the OYO Newquay Beach Hotel – it’s honestly one of those places that gets the location thing absolutely right. I mean, you’re literally on Narrowcliff, which sounds like some tiny side street but is actually perfectly positioned between the main Newquay action and the coastline. You can hear the waves from most rooms, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of the seafront party scene that gets pretty intense during summer months.

The hotel itself has that classic Cornish seaside vibe without trying too hard – you know what I mean? It’s got 4-star comfort but doesn’t feel stuffy or overly polished. The rooms are actually well thought out, with decent-sized windows that let in proper light (crucial when you’re dealing with those moody Atlantic weather days). Staff seem to genuinely know the area too, which is refreshing. They’ll point you toward Fistral Beach for surfing obviously, but also mention the quieter spots like Little Fistral when the main beach gets absolutely packed with learners and surf schools. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of Newquay – narrow Victorian streets weren’t exactly designed for modern cars – but they’ve sorted that out reasonably well.

What really works here is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re a proper walk to the town center and the harbor (maybe 10 minutes if you don’t mind the hills), but honestly that’s perfect because you avoid the late-night noise from the clubs while still being close enough to everything. The 8.2 rating makes total sense when you stay here – it’s not trying to be some luxury resort, but it nails the fundamentals really well. The breakfast is solid, rooms are clean and comfortable, and you get that authentic Newquay experience without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist trap. I’d actually recommend asking for a sea-facing room if available – the extra few pounds are worth it for those morning views across the bay, especially if you catch one of those dramatic Cornish sunrises when the weather’s being cooperative.

  The staff were attentive, at times a little overattentive, and openly spoke about achieving a good booking rating. The room was what I paid for: clean and well-presented, but it lacked attention to detail, such as loo roll and breakfast tea. The location was spot on, as was the parking. The breakfast was good.
  
  What could be improved: The check-in was a complete farce. The hotel had no way of verifying or validating my booking through Booking.com, and it seemed that they were computer-less. This disconnect was worsened by attempting to charge me again for the parking, which was pre-booked and paid for. Once again, there was a disconnect between payment systems and the information available to the check-in staff. Lastly, I was not provided with a room key, as the key system was down, and one had to be escorted to the room each time. Whilst this was clunky, it seemed to work, but it was most unusual. The overattentive nature of the staff was both a positive and a negative; there is a fine balance between customer service and annoying the backside out of a resident to get that 10-star review.

  The staff are excellent, very attentive and very good at ensuring the customers receive great service. For example, I did not reserve parking due to not knowing it was needed so the man at the front, after alternatives were exhausted, finds a way to fit my car in the front car park and then we reserve parking for the week after this. Another is the breakfast, included with your room these are great value, tasty and keep you full into you want a pasty in the afternoon.
  The rooms are always tidy and always clean, nice furniture and the beds are comfy too.
  
  What could be improved: I had to hot-spot for my Chromecast to work so either something blocked on their end or the Internet is not very good but I can imagine this due to the infrastructure not being fully fibre around here.
  
  Very small issue so says a lot about the establishment that there really is not anything to complain about.
