You know what struck me first about Orchard Cottage? It’s tucked away in Saint Endellion in this perfectly quiet spot where you can actually hear the wind coming off the coast – we’re talking maybe a ten-minute walk from the South West Coast Path, which honestly makes all the difference if you’re planning to do any serious exploring around here.

The cottage itself feels like someone’s actually thoughtful home rather than a generic rental property. I mean, there are proper books on the shelves (not just decoration), the kitchen has those little touches that show someone cooks here regularly, and the beds are genuinely comfortable – none of that rock-hard or spring-poking nonsense you sometimes get. The owners clearly know this area well because there’s a folder of local recommendations that goes way beyond the typical tourist spots. They’ll point you toward the best bakery in Wadebridge (about fifteen minutes by car) and actually tell you which tides are best for the beaches at Polzeath. Speaking of getting around, parking is right there at the cottage, which is brilliant because some of these Cornish villages can be a nightmare for finding a spot.

What really sets this place apart – and I think this is why it’s got such a high rating – is that it strikes this perfect balance between being comfortable enough for a proper getaway but still feeling connected to the real Cornwall. Saint Endellion isn’t touristy in that overwhelming way some coastal spots can get (looking at you, Padstow in August), but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. Port Isaac is literally down the road if you want that Doc Martin charm, and the beaches along this stretch are some of the best in North Cornwall without the crowds you’ll find further south. The cottage is quiet enough that you’ll sleep brilliantly, but there’s actually decent mobile signal and wifi if you need to check in with the outside world. Honestly, after staying in places where you’re either completely cut off or dealing with traffic noise, this felt like getting it just right.
