Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Anneth Lowen – I mean, it’s tucked away in Delabole, which most people only know for that massive slate quarry you can see from miles around. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones hiding in plain sight. This little character cottage completely won me over, and I’m actually kicking myself for not booking longer than three nights.
The place sleeps five comfortably (we had four adults and it felt spacious), and there’s something genuinely special about waking up in a proper Cornish cottage where the walls have that satisfying thickness and the windows frame views that change with the light throughout the day. The owners have done this renovation thing perfectly – keeping all the original charm while making sure you’ve got everything you actually need. The kitchen’s properly equipped (not just tourist-level basics), there’s decent water pressure in the shower, and the WiFi actually works, which let’s face it, isn’t always a given in rural Cornwall. What really got me though was how quiet it is at night – you can hear the distant sound of waves when the wind’s right, but no traffic noise, no pub crowds stumbling home.
Location-wise, you’re about ten minutes from Tintagel if you’re into the whole King Arthur thing, but honestly the real gem is how close you are to some of the coast path’s best stretches without dealing with the summer crowds that descend on the more famous spots. Boscastle’s just down the road – proper working harbor with that winding inlet that looks like something from a fairy tale, especially when the mist rolls in around teatime. The coastal walking from here is absolutely brilliant, and you can actually park near the cottage (there’s space for two cars) then walk to several different trail heads. I’d definitely come back, probably in autumn when the light gets that golden quality and you can have whole sections of cliff path to yourself. It’s one of those places that reminds you why Cornwall gets under people’s skin – authentic, comfortable, and positioned perfectly for exploring without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist trap.
