Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve stayed at plenty of places along the Cornish coast, but Newquay Bay Resort on Trevelgue Road genuinely surprised me. The location alone is brilliant – you’re actually in Porth rather than the chaos of central Newquay, which means you get that proper seaside village feel without sacrificing anything. I mean, Porth Beach is literally a two-minute walk down the hill, and it’s one of those beaches that somehow stays a bit quieter even in peak summer. The locals still use it for their morning swims, which tells you everything you need to know.

The resort itself feels like someone actually thought about what travelers want rather than just cramming in as many rooms as possible. My room had this massive window that caught the morning light perfectly – honestly, I found myself having coffee there every day just watching the surfers head out early. The whole place has this relaxed vibe that’s hard to fake; staff actually chat with you instead of giving you that rehearsed hotel smile. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that “let me tell you about seventeen facilities you’ll never use” nonsense. What really impressed me was the attention to small details – proper blackout curtains (crucial if you’re trying to sleep past 5 AM in summer), decent water pressure, and rooms that actually stay cool when it’s scorching outside.

The thing about this part of Cornwall is that you’re perfectly positioned for everything without being stuck in the middle of tourist madness. Watergate Bay is just up the road if you want the trendy beach club scene, but you can also head the other way toward the quieter coves that half the visitors never discover. I spent one afternoon exploring the coastal path toward Bedruthan Steps – started right from the hotel and didn’t see another soul for hours. Honestly, after staying everywhere from budget B&Bs to those massive chain hotels in Newquay proper, this place hits that sweet spot. It’s polished enough that everything just works, but it hasn’t lost that authentic Cornish character that makes you want to come back. The 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top, just really, really good at being exactly what a coastal getaway should be.

Property was in a good spot on site

What could be improved: Was quite a trek to beach, down a big hill so was steep coming back up again, was ok for just a walk but not if you want to take chairs, picnic stuff etc, we ended up paying for parking at the beach

  • Arijana from Croatia – 2 April 2025 (10/10)

The host was very kind and helpful. The caravan is comfortable, clean and well equipped. We really had a pleasant stay.

  • Michael from United Kingdom – 22 March 2025 (10/10)

It was clean comfortable and spacious. Was nice and warm when we arrived and smelt lovely. The water pressure was really good in the shower. There was complimentary tea coffee sugar milk and even a packet of biscuits which was very kind. There was wifi supplied which was good because getting 5g signal is a nightmare

What could be improved: Not a really bad thing and didn't really impact our stay too much but it would have been nice for a couple of extension leads as there isn't many plug sockets and they aren't in the most convenient places

  • David from United Kingdom – 28 January 2025 (10/10)

Hosts went beyond call of duty to add some extras

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Jay from United Kingdom – 11 August 2024 (9/10)

What a lovely stay we had! The caravan was modern and clean. It had everything you needed for a small family. The complex it was on felt very safe had plenty of parking and was very family friendly.
We were down in Newquay visiting family and would definitely want to stay here again.

What could be improved: The only thing that was a slight issue was we didn’t realise the boardmasters festival was on and it is very very close to the resort so we struggled to sleep for the nights we were there when the festival was on but this is no reflection upon this caravan.

The bar and restaurant on site could probably do with some more staff as service was quite slow and they had limited opening hours which wasn’t helpful when you’re away on holiday but that being said the staff that were there were all absolutely amazing, very friendly and very helpful – again this is no reflection on the caravan.
