Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about NB166 – Porth Bay Hideaway? It’s actually tucked away on Trevelgue Road in a spot where you feel properly hidden from the madness, but you’re literally a three-minute amble down to Porth Beach. I mean, the name isn’t just marketing fluff – this place genuinely feels like a hideaway, especially if you’ve been dealing with those massive resort hotels that dominate other parts of the Cornish coast.

The thing about Porth is that it’s sort of the sweet spot between Newquay’s chaos and those impossibly remote coves that require a geology degree to find. You’ve got the beach right there (and honestly, it’s one of those proper family beaches where the locals actually go), but you’re also close enough to Watergate Bay that you can drive over for dinner without it being a whole expedition. The hideaway itself has that four-star polish without feeling stuffy – rooms are done up nicely, nothing groundbreaking but genuinely comfortable, and the staff actually seem to know the area rather than just pointing you toward the nearest chain restaurant. What I really appreciated was the parking situation – sounds boring, I know, but try finding a decent spot in Newquay during summer and you’ll understand why this matters. They’ve got it sorted, which means you can actually relax instead of moving your car every two hours.

The 8.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days. It’s not trying to be some Instagram-perfect boutique place, but everything just… works. The breakfast is proper (locally sourced stuff, not just the usual hotel breakfast wasteland), rooms stay quiet even when it’s busy, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. I stayed in September when the crowds had thinned but the weather was still decent, and honestly, that might be the perfect time for this spot. You get Porth Bay practically to yourself in the mornings, but all the restaurants and pubs are still running full service. Plus, if you’re into the whole coastal path walking thing – and you should be if you’re staying here – you can head north toward Bedruthan Steps or south toward Holywell Bay without fighting through crowds of people trying to get the perfect selfie. The location really is the star here; close enough to civilization that you won’t go stir-crazy, but far enough from the Newquay party scene that you can actually hear the waves at night.

A well equiped, cosy and very clean caravan with two toilets and a clean hot shower. The owner Sarah was a delight to communicate with and kindly let us book an extra night at late notice. The oven was excellent and the kitchen had everything required for self catering. Lovely views and not too far from the campsite shop although a slight hill not too steep to walk back up. The mood lighting on the ceiling and large himalayan rock salt lamp in the lounge/kitchen area helped to create a very relaxing atmosphere and good heating system when it was rainy and windy outside. I will hope to return to this caravan if I stay on that site again because Sarah is so good with communication and has provided a clean and cosy holiday home.
