Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Cornwall, but Mulberry Cottage in Uny Lelant really caught me off guard – in the best way possible. When you first pull up on Station Hill, you might wonder if your GPS got confused because it honestly feels like you’ve stumbled into someone’s private neighborhood rather than finding a hotel. That’s actually part of the charm though – this little 4-star gem sits tucked away from the usual touristy chaos, but you’re still just a quick hop from Hayle and those incredible beaches around Carbis Bay.

The thing about Mulberry Cottage is that it gets all the details right without making a big fuss about it. I mean, the owners clearly know what actual travelers need – decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, proper blackout curtains (you know how bright those summer mornings get in Cornwall), and honestly some of the most comfortable beds I’ve encountered in this price range. The cottage itself has this lovely weathered stone look that screams authentic Cornwall, not some modern interpretation of what developers think Cornwall should look like. You can actually hear the trains from the nearby St Ives line occasionally, but it’s more charming than annoying – sort of like a gentle reminder that you’re in a real working part of Cornwall, not just a tourist bubble.

What really sold me on this place was how the staff seemed to actually live in the area and could give you proper local advice. They pointed me toward this little coastal path that cuts through to Lelant Saltings – absolutely stunning walk that most visitors completely miss because they’re all rushing straight to St Ives. The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward too, which anyone who’s tried to park in central St Ives during summer will appreciate. The breakfast was proper Cornish fare without being overly fancy, and they actually accommodate early departures if you’re trying to beat the beach crowds. I stayed during late September when things were quieting down, and honestly that might be the perfect time – still warm enough for proper beach days, but you’re not fighting hordes of families for every decent spot. The 9-point rating this place gets makes complete sense once you spend a night or two here. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Cornwall, but it delivers exactly what you want from a proper Cornish getaway – comfort, authenticity, and that rare combination of being peaceful but not isolated.

  The cottage is lovely located, closed to st'ives and walking distance from a beautiful dog friendly beach. The place was cosy, well designed and full of all the commodities one can desire.
  
  What could be improved: We had some trouble to find out where the switch for the hot water was located and we had a couple of cold showers in the meantime.
