First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Moorland Breeze, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a farm stay in the Cornish countryside. But this four-star property completely surprised me — in the best possible way. Set on Poldue farm just outside Bodmin, it’s one of those places that feels like a well-kept secret. The building itself has that perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort, and you know what? The parking situation is actually fantastic — free and right on-site, which is a relief when you’re hauling luggage after a long drive.

Location & Surroundings

The location here is genuinely special, and I can see why couples rate it so highly (apparently 9.8 out of 10, which honestly makes sense). You’re surrounded by rolling moorland that stretches as far as you can see, but you’re not completely isolated — Bodmin is close enough for supplies or a proper meal out. What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night. I mean, coming from the city, the silence was almost startling at first. During the day, you can walk right out onto the moors, and there’s something really grounding about having all that open space around you.

The Room Experience

My room was honestly better than I expected for a farm stay. Clean lines, comfortable bed, and — this was key for me — excellent heating. The windows look out over the moorland, and waking up to that view each morning was pretty special. The bathroom was modern and well-designed, though not huge. What impressed me most was the attention to detail — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets, and blackout curtains that actually work. You can tell they’ve thought about what travelers actually need.

Dining & Amenities

The breakfast situation is solid — nothing fancy, but fresh and filling. They source a lot locally, which you’d expect from a farm property, and the eggs are definitely from happy chickens. There’s a small restaurant area that feels more like eating in someone’s well-appointed dining room than a hotel restaurant, which I actually preferred. The staff knows the area really well, too — they gave me some great recommendations for walks and local pubs that I never would have found otherwise.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t a place for everyone — if you need a spa or room service, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want to actually disconnect and experience the Cornish countryside without roughing it, Moorland Breeze hits that sweet spot perfectly. The 9.5 rating makes complete sense once you’re there. It’s the kind of place where you sleep better than you have in months, where the air actually smells different, and where you find yourself lingering over breakfast just to watch the light change across the moors. Plus, the value is excellent for what you get — I’ve paid more for much less atmospheric places.
