Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Millers Cottage? It’s actually tucked away in this quiet residential area of Bude where you’d never expect to find accommodation this good. I mean, the name makes it sound like some rustic farmhouse, but honestly – this place has been done up beautifully while keeping that authentic Cornish cottage feel.
The location is pretty brilliant if you know Bude at all. You’re literally a five-minute stroll down to the Breakwater and Summerleaze Beach, but far enough back from the seafront madness that you won’t hear drunk teenagers at 2am (trust me on this one – I’ve stayed closer to the action before and regretted it). There’s decent parking too, which anyone who’s driven around Bude in summer will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The whole setup feels more like you’re staying in someone’s well-appointed guest house rather than a typical hotel – and I actually prefer that. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that corporate rigmarole.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve been there a day or two. The beds are properly comfortable (not just hotel-firm), there’s actually enough storage space for your stuff, and – this sounds small but it matters – the shower has proper water pressure. The rooms have this cozy cottage vibe without feeling cramped or overly themed, if you know what I mean. You can tell someone’s put thought into the furnishings rather than just ordering everything from a hotel supply catalog. The whole place smells faintly of that good kind of old building smell mixed with fresh linens, not air freshener or cleaning chemicals.
Honestly, the 9.4 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be some fancy resort with a spa and three restaurants – it’s just doing the cottage hotel thing really, really well. The staff actually seem to know the area (rare these days) and can point you toward the decent pubs and the walking routes that aren’t overrun with tourists. I particularly appreciated that they warned me about the tide times for the coastal path – saved me from getting cut off near Crooklets Beach like a proper tourist.
The only minor thing I’d mention is that being a proper old cottage, the walls aren’t exactly soundproof. Not a problem unless you get unlucky with loud neighbors, but worth knowing. Also, if you’re the type who needs a full English breakfast included, you’ll want to check what’s on offer – though honestly, there are some excellent cafes within walking distance (try The Olive Tree on Princes Street if you want proper local breakfast).
Bottom line? If you want to stay somewhere in Bude that feels authentically Cornish but doesn’t skimp on comfort, Millers Cottage hits that sweet spot perfectly. It’s the kind of place you’d actually want to come back to rather than just somewhere convenient to crash after beach days.

A great little cottage in a good location 15 minutes from the nearest pubs and restaurants in Bude.
It had a well equipped kitchen, nice en suite bathroom and a patio for alfresco eating with a table and chairs and sunbeds on the decking.
What could be improved: We could find nothing wrong with Millers Cottage. It suited us perfectlyWendy from United Kingdom – 8 August 2022 (9/10)
Very quiet and private. Friendly and approachable host. Nice well cared for property.
What could be improved: Location for us was further from beach and town than we would have liked. No information in property regarding places to visit or instruction manuals for oven, dishwasher etc.
