Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first climbed up Polkirt Hill – it’s one of those steep Cornish lanes that makes you question your life choices halfway up. But then you reach this little boutique flatlet, and suddenly you get why they put it here. The sea views are genuinely spectacular, stretching right across Mevagissey Bay, and you can actually see the working harbor below with all the colorful fishing boats bobbing about.
The place itself feels like someone’s stylish home rather than a typical rental – which, let’s be honest, is exactly what you want when you’re paying for boutique accommodation. The furnishings are thoughtfully chosen without being precious about it, and there’s this lovely balance between modern comfort and keeping that Cornish cottage character intact. What really struck me was how quiet it gets in the evenings, despite being so close to the village center. You’re literally a five-minute walk down the hill to the harbor (though coming back up after a few pints at the Ship Inn is… well, it’s character building). The countryside views from the back windows are equally impressive – rolling green fields that change color throughout the day depending on the light.
You know what sets this place apart though? It’s the little details that show someone actually cares about guests having a proper experience. The kitchen is properly equipped for cooking – not just the bare minimum you usually get in holiday lets. There’s decent coffee, the shower has actual water pressure, and the Wi-Fi works everywhere (crucial if you’re trying to upload those harbor sunset photos). Parking can be a bit tight on Polkirt Hill itself, but there’s usually space if you don’t mind a short walk. I mean, everything in Mevagissey involves short walks anyway – it’s that kind of village where your biggest decision is whether to grab pasties from Austells or fish and chips from one of the harbor cafés. The 9.9 rating honestly makes sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s one of those rare places that delivers exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises.
