Hotel Description

You know what really surprised me about Mawgan Pads? It’s technically part of a touring park, but honestly, you’d never guess it from the quality of the accommodations. I mean, when I first pulled up to the Padstow Touring and Holiday Park entrance, I was expecting something pretty basic – but these pods are genuinely impressive.

The location is actually brilliant if you know Padstow at all. You’re close enough to walk into town (though it’s a decent hike if you’ve got heavy shopping bags), but far enough out that you escape the absolute madness of the harbor area during peak season. And trust me, in summer Padstow can feel like a bit of a zoo – especially around the Rick Stein empire near the quay. From Mawgan Pads, you get that sweet spot where you can easily drive down to the Camel Trail or pop into town for dinner, but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of day-trippers walking past your window. The pods themselves are surprisingly well-thought-out. I was expecting cramped and basic, but there’s actually clever storage everywhere, and the bed was properly comfortable – not that thin mattress situation you sometimes get with glamping. What really got me was the attention to detail: decent lighting for reading (sounds small, but you’d be amazed how many places get this wrong), USB charging points where you actually need them, and a little kitchenette that’s functional enough for real cooking, not just heating up beans.

The whole setup feels fresh and well-maintained, which matters when you’re staying somewhere that gets heavy use during Cornwall’s busy months. Check-in was smooth – no hanging around waiting for someone to show up with keys, which I’ve definitely experienced at smaller places around here. And here’s something that’ll matter if you’re traveling in shoulder season: the heating actually works properly. Sounds obvious, but Cornwall in April can be surprisingly chilly, especially at night.

I’ll be honest, it’s not the cheapest option in the area, but that 9.3 rating makes sense when you experience it. The value feels right for what you get – it’s that sweet spot between proper comfort and the outdoor experience. Plus, if you’re planning to explore the north Cornwall coast (and you absolutely should), you’re perfectly positioned. Daymer Bay is just down the road, the South West Coast Path is accessible without driving, and you can actually get to some of the quieter beaches that the day-trippers from Newquay don’t usually reach.

The only minor thing I’d mention is that during school holidays, the touring park side can get pretty lively – families with kids, campfires going, that whole scene. It’s not necessarily a bad thing (actually quite nice if you’re in the mood for it), but worth knowing if you’re after complete tranquility. Overall though, Mawgan Pads hits that rare balance of feeling like a proper getaway while still giving you all the practical comforts that make a holiday actually relaxing rather than an endurance test.

    Very spacious clean and tidy

What could be improved: One small hiccup on our first day with a broken sink we reported it and the following morning was advised by a member of staff that could perhaps benefit from a Customer Service Course – the matter wouldn’t be resolved that day and to use the other sink – thankfully matter was resolved on the day 👍 everything else was abs perfect and would definitely recommend – in fact we already have to friends – would def return.
