Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Marios Lodge? I was expecting just another holiday park accommodation – maybe a step up from camping but nothing to write home about. But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked right into Atlantic Bays Holiday Park in St Merryn, which means you’re getting that proper Cornish coast experience without the tourist circus of central Padstow (though you’re close enough to walk down to the harbor when you want Rick Stein fish and chips).

The lodge itself feels more like staying at a friend’s really nice beach house than a hotel room. I mean, the 4-star rating isn’t just marketing fluff – they’ve actually thought about what makes a stay comfortable. The windows frame these lovely views across the holiday park toward the coast, and on clear mornings you can smell that proper sea air mixing with bacon from someone’s breakfast. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re technically in a holiday park. The soundproofing is solid, and there’s this nice buffer zone of landscaping that keeps things peaceful. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that stuffy hotel lobby nonsense, just friendly people who actually know the area.

Here’s the thing about staying in St Merryn that a lot of visitors don’t realize – you’re perfectly positioned for both the dramatic north coast beaches and the calmer south coast spots around Padstow. Constantine Bay is literally a few minutes’ drive, and that beach is absolutely stunning when the surf’s up (though probably too wild for families with small kids). If you want something mellower, Harlyn Bay on the other side is this gorgeous sheltered cove that locals love. The lodge gives you decent parking space, which honestly matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling beach gear and trying to explore different stretches of coastline. I found myself using it as a proper base camp – out exploring during the day, then back to decompress before heading into Padstow for dinner. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there; it’s one of those places that just gets the details right without trying too hard to impress you.

Reviews

  • Andrea from United Kingdom – 9 June 2025 (8/10)

Nice clean accommodation in a quiet rural area. We were a party of 3 and only used the accommodation to cook and sleep, so it served our needs adequately. The host was extremely pleasant, helpful, and responsive when we needed some information.

What could be improved: For us, the lack of a washing machine was a bit of a pain, but that was mainly due to the fact that the weather was awful, and due to us working at the Royal Cornwall, we had to walk across muddy fields to get in and out so it would have been much better to be able to put a quick wash on rather than pack muddy clothing, other than that the chalet met our needs.

  • Inna from United Kingdom – 29 May 2025 (9/10)

    – the parking is in front so we didn't have to walk much
    – the view was amazing
    – the place was cozy and comfortable

What could be improved: – there's no beddings provided and towels.

  • Elizabeth from United Kingdom – 6 April 2025 (10/10)

I think this is the cleanest place I have ever stayed it was spotlessly clean. Plenty of room and really good value for money. We will be back. Things like salt, pepper and olive oil in the cupboard which was really handy too. This is someone who’s clearly been doing it for years everything was just thought about and worked.
