Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of farm stays that promise “authentic countryside charm” and deliver cramped rooms with questionable heating, but Lower Trengale Farm Holiday Cottages actually gets it right. Tucked away in St Neot – which honestly feels like you’ve stumbled into a forgotten corner of Cornwall where the tourists haven’t quite figured out how to find you yet – these cottages sit on working farmland that’s been converted with real thought, not just slapped together to cash in on the rural tourism boom. The moment you pull up the gravel drive (parking’s never an issue, by the way), you’re hit with that proper countryside quiet – no motorway hum, just sheep occasionally bleating and maybe a tractor puttering around in the distance.
What struck me most was how they’ve managed to keep the original character of these old farm buildings while actually making them comfortable to live in. The stone walls are thick enough that you genuinely can’t hear your neighbors, the kitchens are properly equipped – I mean, sharp knives, decent pans, not the usual holiday rental dregs – and the heating works without bankrupting you on electricity costs. The owner clearly knows this area inside and out because they’ve left these brilliant local recommendations that go way beyond the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward a pub in Warleggan that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, it ended up being one of those perfect Cornish evenings you remember for years. St Neot itself is one of those villages where the church is genuinely worth seeing (15th-century stained glass that’ll make you forget you’re not normally into that sort of thing), and you’re perfectly positioned for both the moors and the coast without being stuck in the middle of nowhere.
I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t budget accommodation, and if you’re looking for hotel-style service where someone makes your bed daily, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want somewhere that feels like staying at a well-off friend’s country place, where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re roughing it, Lower Trengale nails it. The cottages book up fast during summer (especially July and August), so don’t expect to just rock up last minute. What you get is space to spread out, proper peace and quiet, and that rare thing in holiday rentals – the sense that someone actually cares about whether you have a good time rather than just extracting maximum profit from minimum effort. After a week there, I found myself genuinely reluctant to head back to London traffic and tiny flats. That 9.3 rating isn’t inflated marketing nonsense – it’s what happens when someone puts real effort into creating something special rather than just adequate.

Beautiful surroundings, walks, gardens, play area. Very safe for grandchildren.
Little honesty shop was a great idea.
We made use of the party room and all had a big meal together, then played games.
Firepit was a hit, the children and adults loved toasting marshmallows.
We also l8ved feeding the animals on the farm.
Hosts were great, always responded and very helpful.
The kids loved the Gruffalo trail and was lovely that they all got a little gift when leaving, they were all over the moon.
Would thoroughly recommend.
What could be improved: Nothing really other than could do with additional baking tray to use in oven.Hayley from United Kingdom – 30 May 2025 (9/10)
The grounds were lovely, perfect for children. Great open gardens with sand pit and gruffalo trail which was great. The farm animals were a bonus, our children loved feeding the animals, and checking for the cheeky chickens every day who would always appear at dinner time!
What could be improved: There wasn't much space in the living room for all of us which were staying in Fowey Cottage, or space for the children to play.
Great outdoor space for them to run wild on nice days, but limited space indoors.Naizy from United Kingdom – 24 May 2025 (8/10)
The farm was exactly as described. Private and peaceful with a few farm animals that were treated as family.
We have a toddler who enjoyed the morning feeding sessions of the chickens, sheep and horse. Also, the little playground kept her well entertained.
The farm is a little out of the way, so definitely need a car to get around. The surrounding areas are very beautiful with a lot of wildflowers and nature all around.
There's a waterfall close by that definitely is a must see!
Gemma was very attentive and responsive without being intrusive.
We stayed for 5 nights and really loved it.Karen from United Kingdom – 24 May 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: Water pressure In the shower was not good. Sleeps seven, but only seats six at the dining table!? Shower cubicles could do with a refurbFran from United Kingdom – 9 March 2025 (10/10)

We stayed in Fowey Cottage, a beautiful 4 bedroom cottage, with 2 ensuites with showers and 1 family bathroom.
The cottage was beautifully set out, with a beautiful balance of modern & authentic.
The beds were super comfortable.
Everything was spotlessly clean, and the little personal touches such as tea coffee milk and scones on arrival were lovely.
The grounds are immaculate, and the children loved running around the woods and meeting all the farms animals.
It is perfectly situated so you are enough into the countryside for everything to be peaceful, but close enough to drive to the nearest towns for some necessities, however there is a lovely little honesty shop on the grounds too!
The games room was a huge hit for our older kids, and kept them out of our hair for a few hours!
The WiFi was faultless, even when we had many devices connected.
The weather was kind to us for February, but even if it had been pouring down, we could have happily stayed in the cosy cottage in front of the log burner, playing games around the table with the children!
We would 100% stay here again, our only downfall was that we didn't book long enough!!Dabin from United Kingdom – 15 January 2025 (8/10)
Great location, very friendly team frame shop and other facilities very good
What could be improved: Lack of shower option.
