Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first spotted this Victorian conversion on Alexandra Road, I wasn’t expecting much – you know how these “charming period features” listings can go. But walking up to The Old Club, there’s something genuinely special about the way they’ve kept the original character without making it feel like a museum piece. The flat sits in this beautifully maintained Victorian house that’s actually got some history to it (the name’s a dead giveaway), and you’re literally three minutes from the seafront – I timed it because I’m weird like that.
The one-bedroom setup is perfectly sized for a couple, though I mean, you could squeeze a third person on the sofa if needed. What really got me was the attention to detail inside – someone clearly lives in Penzance and knows what travelers actually want. The kitchen’s got proper mugs (not those tiny hotel ones), decent knives, and they’ve even stocked local tea. The bedroom’s at the back, so you don’t get the late-night Alexandra Road chatter, which is smart because it can get a bit lively on weekend evenings. The whole place feels lived-in rather than sterile, if that makes sense – there are books on the shelves you’d actually want to read, and the wifi’s solid enough for video calls back home.
Location-wise, you’re in that sweet spot where locals actually live but tourists don’t overrun everything. Walk left toward the harbor and you’ll hit the best pasty shop in town (seriously, skip the touristy ones on Market Jew Street), or head right and you’re at the coastal path that takes you all the way to Newlyn if you’re feeling ambitious. The train station’s about a ten-minute walk, though honestly, once you’re here you won’t want to leave anyway. Parking can be a bit tricky during summer – there’s no dedicated spot, but the surrounding streets usually have something, and the hosts are pretty good about sharing the local parking secrets. I stayed in September and it was perfect – still warm enough for evening walks along the prom, but without the August crowds. The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there; it’s one of those places that just works without trying too hard.

My nan and pop's have just spent a long weekend here. They had nothing but good words to say about everything provided with this accommodation. They really loved the fresh flowers and all the items to make a good cuppa. They will be visiting again.
Beautiful place to stay.Lynne from United Kingdom – 16 June 2025 (10/10)

The flat was lovely, well supplied with necessities, and had a nice little patio to sit in the sun. Very nice taste in all the furnishings.
What could be improved: Communication ahead from Booking.com was TERRIBLE! Although the host said she sent a long email with the exact address (not the vague “Old Club” which took me to the wrong gate with a confusing keypad, I checked my spam folder and others, and the first time I got tat email was 6:20 the night of my stay, after I had been trying to get in withe the wrong code for an hour. The code in a previous communication from Booking.com was confimed by the host that morning at 9:20, but She then sent the corrected keycode only after I called her. Extremely stressful, especially because it was difficult reaching her with my American phone.Tetiana from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (10/10)

Clean, well equipped apartment very close to the seafront and supermarket. Very well situated, just a ten minute walk to the centre of town, harbour, bus/train stations, shops, parks, pubs and restaurants. Well placed to visit the surrounding towns and enjoy coastal walks.

A lovely decorated apartment close to all attractions of Penzance. It had everything you needed for a short or long stay. Close to a large supermarket.
What could be improved: Not always easy to find a park. Mattress on the bed could have been better.
