Hotel Description

Honestly, when I first pulled up to the Lobster Pot in Mount Brioni, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the name conjures up images of touristy seaside places with plastic tablecloths, you know? But this place is actually something special, perched right there in Downderry with views that’ll make you forget to check your phone for hours. The building itself has that weathered coastal charm that only comes from decades of salt air, and there’s parking right on site (which, trust me, is worth its weight in gold around here since the village streets are barely wide enough for one car).

What really sets this place apart is how it feels like staying at someone’s well-appointed beach house rather than a typical hotel. The rooms have this lived-in comfort – I mean, everything’s beautifully maintained and spotless, but there’s none of that sterile chain hotel vibe. You’ll actually want to spend time in your room, especially if you snag one facing the sea. The sound of waves is constant but not overwhelming, sort of like having the world’s best white noise machine. The staff clearly know the area inside and out – they pointed me toward this incredible cliff walk that starts practically at the hotel’s doorstep and winds along to Seaton Beach. Most visitors miss it entirely because it’s not marked on the main tourist maps.

The breakfast alone is worth the stay, honestly. None of that continental buffet nonsense – they’re serving up proper Cornish fare with local suppliers you can actually taste the difference from. I watched them prepare everything fresh each morning from the dining room window, which overlooks the village and out toward Whitsand Bay. Mount Brioni itself is this tiny hamlet that most people drive through without stopping, but that’s exactly why it works so well. You’re close enough to pop into Looe (maybe fifteen minutes by car) when you want proper restaurants and shops, but far enough away that you actually get some peace. The coastal path connects you to bigger beaches if you’re feeling energetic, or you can just settle into one of the hotel’s common areas with a book and watch the fishing boats come and go. September through October is probably the sweet spot if you can swing it – still warm enough for walks but without the summer crowds that pack places like Polperro. The only minor thing I’d mention is that WiFi can be a bit patchy in some rooms, but honestly, that might be a feature rather than a bug depending on what kind of getaway you’re after.

The views, the ,quietness, beach for dogs it is what we wanted to find AND IT DELIVERED ON ALL OF THEM.and a allocated parking bay

What could be improved: On the grassed area about 2 feet from the left there was one blade of grass about 2mm bigger than the rest.as you can see there was nothing wrong it was in our top place we have stayed in Cornwall.

Everything about my stay at Mount Brioni was perfect. The location is beautiful, the apartment spotless and comfortable and the view exceptional. Also the staff all very friendly.

What could be improved: The only thing I didn't like was not booking to stay longer.

  • Yulia from United Kingdom – 21 August 2022 (8/10)

    Brilliant place, amazing location

  • Jennie from United Kingdom – 24 July 2022 (8/10)

We absolutely loved this apartment. it was very clean, had a comfortable bed and the kitchen was very well equipped. It was also in an amazing location overlooking the beach and in short walking distance to the local pubs and restaurants.

What could be improved: There wasn’t anything to dislike.

  • Pam from United Kingdom – 9 August 2024 (9/10)

Amazing view over the beach, even when it was raining it was lovely and relaxing to be there.
Apartment was well stocked. The owners were very welcoming, considerate, clearly enjoy what they do.
It's a great place to either go and do nothing for a few days, or go out and explore neighbouring towns.

What could be improved: The local area was ok, the pub and cafe were good. The nearest shop is a 15min drive, local supermarket is a 25min drive. Amazing fish and chip shop about 15 mins drive.

  • Peter from United Kingdom – 17 September 2023 (8/10)

The calm and relaxing atmosphere ,lovely views.

What could be improved: In the mornings, constant dog barking coming up from the beach for a couple of hours and then on and of all day.
The room also had a flea problem we had several bites on ankles but after a good spray was OK.

  • Helen from United Kingdom – 15 July 2023 (8/10)

Lovely little apartment with a beautiful sea view right above the beach. The apartment was clean and comfortable, and the kitchen was pretty well stocked for self-catering. Great value for a week. We'd definitely stay again.

What could be improved: The communal areas were a little shabby and in need of a little TLC

  • Thomas from United Kingdom – 18 September 2022 (8/10)

Really good location overlooking the beach. The room had everything we needed.
    Staff was very welcoming.

What could be improved: Sofa was not very comfortable.
You'll need good legs if you walk up and down to the beach though you can drive.
