Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Little Tregarrick? I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the photos online, but pulling up that gravel drive through the Cornish countryside – well, it’s one of those moments where you think “okay, this might actually be something special.” The place sits in this gorgeous valley just outside Helston, and I mean properly rural, not the fake countryside-adjacent stuff you sometimes get. You’re surrounded by those classic Cornish hedgerows and rolling fields, but here’s the thing – you’re still only about ten minutes from the town center when you need supplies or a proper pub meal.

The house itself is this beautifully restored Georgian manor that feels lived-in rather than museum-perfect, if that makes sense. The owners (and you’ll actually meet them, which is refreshing) have done this incredible job of keeping all the character – original fireplaces, those satisfying old wooden floors that creak in just the right way, windows that actually open properly for fresh air. But they’ve also sorted out all the practical stuff that matters when you’re staying somewhere. The WiFi actually works throughout the building, the showers have proper pressure, and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in Cornwall. Each room feels different too – some have views across the gardens toward the moors, others look out over the courtyard where they’ve got this lovely little seating area that catches the evening sun perfectly.

What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve managed to nail that balance between giving you space and being genuinely helpful. The breakfast situation is brilliant – locally sourced everything, including eggs from their own chickens (you’ll hear them in the morning, but it’s charming rather than annoying), and they’ll actually accommodate pretty much any dietary requirement without making a fuss about it. Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned for exploring west Cornwall without dealing with the madness of St. Ives or Padstow crowds. The coastal path at Porthleven is maybe fifteen minutes by car, and if you’re into the whole Eden Project thing, that’s easily doable as a day trip. Plus – and this matters more than you’d think – parking is never an issue here, which is basically gold dust in Cornwall during summer. The 9.7 rating isn’t one of those inflated numbers either; this genuinely is the kind of place where everything just works as it should, and you find yourself already planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out.

Lovely place. I have stayed in Cornwall several times over recent years, and my only issue with this place is that I haven't found it sooner! Was welcomed by Chris, the owner (and farmer), who couldn't be a nicer chap. Had tea, coffee, milk, and a cream tea left for us, which was a really nice touch.the

What could be improved: Nothing I didn't like, but if there was one thing, which is really minor, it would be nice to have had some oven gloves.

This accommodation is in a delightful barn within a working farm. We found the barn very comfortable and homely. It is spacious and well equipped. It was lovely to be woken by the cows in the morning and greeted by two labradors for their treat! An added bonus was seeing two barn owls that were roosting in the roof of the barn. The barn is located close to Helston and within easy reach of St Ives, Porthleven, Falmouth, Mullion, Lizard and surrounding areas. We had a fantastic stay here and would not hesitate to book again. A big thank you to the hosts for leaving a cream tea and basic provisions for our arrival.

What could be improved: Nothing to dislike at this property.
Would just recommend you bring shower wash as this was not supplied.

  • Greg from United Kingdom – 16 November 2022 (10/10)

Location was excellent for us as it was close to family. Very good facilities & cleanliness. The little important touches, which rarely get addressed these days, such as a general use hand towel in the bathroom rather than expecting you to use a person's personal towels for wiping hands on. Also, a little touch of Cornwall – a cream tea provided to have at our leisure.

What could be improved: We don't have any complaints

    Very comfortable, spacious & clean.
