Hotel Description

I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Little Cedars House on Holywell Road. The street itself is one of those lovely Truro residential roads that tourists usually zip past on their way to the cathedral, but that’s actually part of what makes this place special. You’re tucked away in a proper neighborhood, not stuck in some sterile hotel district, and you can walk into the city center in about ten minutes without dealing with the parking nightmare around Lemon Quay.

The house itself has that solid Victorian charm that Cornwall does so well – you know, the kind of place where the floorboards actually creak in a comforting way rather than keeping you up at night. What really got me was how the owners (and I mean the actual owners, not some faceless management company) have managed to keep it feeling like a home while still being properly professional. The rooms are genuinely spacious – I mean, you can actually open your suitcase without having to close the bathroom door first, which is more than I can say for most places in this price range. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, too, though honestly, you might find yourself wanting to disconnect once you settle into one of their sitting areas with a cup of tea.

Here’s what I wish someone had told me before my first visit: if you’re driving, there’s proper parking on-site, which is basically gold dust in Truro. The railway station is close enough that you’ll hear the occasional train, but it’s more of a gentle rumble than anything disruptive – actually quite soothing if you’re a bit of a transport nerd like me. The breakfast room overlooks their little garden, and if you time it right in spring or summer, you’ll catch the morning light just perfectly. They source a lot locally too – proper Cornish bacon and eggs, not the mass-produced stuff you get at chain hotels. The staff genuinely know the area, so when they recommend that little bakery on King Street or suggest taking the back route to the Eden Project to avoid the A30 madness, they’re speaking from experience, not reading from a script. It’s that kind of place where you feel like you’re staying with knowledgeable locals rather than just occupying a room for the night.
