Hotel Description
You know those places that feel impossibly perfect until you realize they’re actually real? That’s Keigwin Cottage in Mousehole – I mean, even the village name sounds made up, but this little Cornish fishing village is about as authentic as it gets. The cottage sits right on Keigwin Place, which is basically a stone’s throw from the harbor, and honestly, the first time I walked up to it I had to double-check the address because it looked like something out of a period drama.
The thing about staying here is that you’re not just getting a room – you’re stepping into proper Mousehole life. I could hear the gulls every morning (which, fair warning, starts pretty early), and there’s this lovely smell of salt air mixed with whatever the neighbors are cooking for breakfast. The cottage itself has that perfect balance of old-world charm and actual comfort – thick stone walls that keep things cool even on those rare hot Cornish days, but with modern touches that mean you’re not roughing it. The owners clearly know what they’re doing because everything just works, from the WiFi to the shower pressure. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in Mousehole – the streets weren’t exactly designed for cars – but they’ve sorted that out for you, which honestly saves so much hassle.
What really gets me about this place is the location. You can walk to the harbor in about two minutes, and I spent most evenings just wandering down to watch the boats come in. The Ship Inn is right there if you want a proper Cornish pint, and you’re close enough to hear the gentle lapping of waves at night but far enough back that you don’t get the full force of the tourist crowds during the day. Actually, Mousehole gets pretty busy in summer – it’s one of those places that shows up on every “most beautiful villages in Cornwall” list – but staying at the cottage means you can enjoy the village in the early morning or evening when it’s just locals walking their dogs and fishermen doing their thing. It’s about a twenty-minute drive to Penzance if you need proper shops or the train station, and you’re perfectly positioned for exploring the rest of West Cornwall. The whole setup just makes sense, you know? It’s the kind of place that makes you understand why people fall in love with Cornwall and never want to leave.

Love the decorating and the quirkiness of the property. Especially the walk-in wardrobe. Appreciated the outside seating in the courtyard.
What could be improved: I would have liked a few more cooking utensils.
The shower poured water over the floor towards and under the basin, even if you had the shower curtain taut. The large sofa under the windows was hard and uncomfortable for my wife, so we ended up having a settee each. No recycling facilities!
I know it sounds like I’m moaning, but it’s honestly constructive feedback. They’re just little things really.
But the water on the floor from the shower is an issue that needs to be creatively solved.Paul from United Kingdom – 7 December 2024 (9/10)
