Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Hazelnut House? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street where you’d never expect to find accommodation this good. I mean, Snowdrop Crescent sounds like something from a Jane Austen novel, and honestly, the whole area has that same kind of understated charm. When I first pulled up, I was double-checking the address because it feels more like you’re visiting someone’s beautifully restored Georgian home than checking into a hotel.
The thing about staying here is that you’re properly in Launceston, not some generic hotel district. I could walk to the town center in about ten minutes – past those lovely old terraced houses and down through the park where locals walk their dogs in the evening. The castle’s practically on your doorstep, which is brilliant if you’re into history, but more importantly, you’re close enough to the good pubs and that excellent bakery on Castle Street (get the Cornish pasties, seriously). Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around Cornwall’s medieval town centers will appreciate. The rooms themselves have this perfect balance of period character and modern comfort – I’m talking original features that actually add to the experience rather than making you feel like you’re camping in a museum. The bed was one of those where you sink in just enough, and the bathroom had proper water pressure, which you can never take for granted in older buildings.
What really sets this place apart though is the attention to detail that comes from people who clearly care about what they’re doing. The breakfast (when I managed to get up early enough) featured local ingredients, and they actually knew where things came from when I asked. Check-in was refreshingly personal – no corporate script, just genuine helpful advice about what to do in the area. They pointed me toward some walking trails I never would have found otherwise, including this gorgeous route along the River Kensey that barely gets mentioned in guidebooks. The whole experience felt authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find these days. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option in town, but when you factor in the location, the quality, and the fact that you’re supporting a local business that’s clearly putting heart into what they do, it’s worth every penny. I’d definitely stay here again – and I’ve already recommended it to friends planning their own Cornwall trips.
