Hotel Description

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Harbour Hotel Padstow on Station Road, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. It’s sort of tucked away from the main harbor action, but that actually turned out to be one of its best features. You get all the charm of being in Padstow without the chaos of tourists constantly streaming past your window.

The thing about this place is that it really gets the balance right between being polished and still feeling like you’re in a proper Cornish fishing town. The rooms have this contemporary coastal vibe – you know, clean lines and neutral colors – but they’ve avoided that sterile hotel chain feeling. My room overlooked the Camel Estuary, and honestly, watching the tide come and go while having morning coffee became my daily ritual. The staff seemed to actually know the area too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about the best time to walk the Camel Trail (it’s literally right there), the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a brochure – he told me about the quieter section toward Wadebridge and mentioned which café does the best cream tea along the route.

What really sold me on the place was how it handles the whole Padstow experience. Rick Stein’s empire is obviously the big draw here, but the hotel doesn’t try to compete or cash in on that connection in some cheesy way. Instead, they’ve got their own restaurant that focuses on local seafood without the celebrity chef markup, and the breakfast – well, it’s proper good. Real Cornwall sausages, eggs that actually taste like something, and they don’t rush you out even during busy summer mornings. Speaking of busy times, I was there in July and while the town was absolutely heaving during the day, the hotel felt like a calm retreat. You can walk down to the harbor in about three minutes when you want the action, then escape back when you’ve had enough of the crowds queuing for fish and chips. Parking can be a bit tricky in Padstow generally, but they’ve got their own spaces which honestly might save you a small fortune and a lot of stress. The only minor gripe I’d have is that the walls aren’t the thickest – I could occasionally hear my neighbors, though it wasn’t anything terrible. For a four-star place with an 8.6 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for without any nasty surprises on checkout.

  • Richard from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (9/10)

Great location, close to Rick Stein's seafood restaurant and cookery school. Room was quiet and had a nice sea view. Easy on-site parking. YouTube on tv. Friendly staff.

What could be improved: Nothing of any significance.

  • Sharon from United Kingdom – 21 June 2025 (9/10)

Staff were really friendly and helpful, Room was very clean and comfortable. Good selection of food for the included continental breakfast.

What could be improved: The only downside was that our room was next door to the lift and therefore there was a little bit of mechanical noise and noise from other guests using the lift.

Elegant and wonderfully positioned overlooking the estuary.

What could be improved: The seagulls which soiled most cars parked on site; the fact it took two full days for the complimentary Gin to be delivered in spite of several requests.
