Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to the Guillemot Holiday Flat on Lower Chapel Street – I mean, it’s tucked away on this narrow little street that you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it. But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. The building itself has that weathered Cornish character that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual history, not some generic holiday rental.
The location is pretty brilliant once you get your bearings. Lower Chapel Street runs parallel to the main drag, so you’re literally a two-minute walk from all the quay action – the fish and chip shops, the little galleries, those tourist boats that chug out to sea – but you don’t get the noise and chaos that comes with being right in the thick of it. I stayed here during the summer madness (well, what passes for madness in Looe), and while the town center was packed with families and day-trippers, our street stayed relatively peaceful. You can actually hear the seagulls instead of just car engines, which is saying something for a seaside town.
The flat itself punches above its weight – there’s something about the way it’s been put together that feels thoughtful rather than just functional. The kitchen actually has everything you need if you want to cook the fish you bought down at the harbor, and the living space doesn’t feel cramped even when you’re stuck indoors during one of those sudden Cornish downpours. What really impressed me was the attention to detail; proper blackout curtains (you’ll thank me when you don’t wake up at 5 AM to blazing summer sunshine), decent shower pressure, and – this might sound silly – but the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the whole place. I’ve stayed in plenty of holiday rentals where you have to huddle in one corner to get a signal.
Parking can be a bit of a puzzle, I’ll be honest. The street’s narrow and there’s not always a spot right outside, but there’s a car park about a five-minute walk away that’s reasonable if you’re staying for a few days. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that awkward waiting around or complicated key collection drama you sometimes get with holiday lets. The whole experience just felt… easy, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to unwind.
What really sold me on this place, though, was stepping out in the morning and being able to grab coffee and pastries from that little bakery on Fore Street without having to get in the car or plan some major expedition. You’re close enough to walk everywhere that matters in Looe – the beach, the harbor, even the train station if you fancy a day trip up the valley – but far enough from the main tourist chaos to feel like you’ve found your own little corner of Cornwall. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back, honestly.

Location was great, spent lots of years in Looe visiting family. Met up with old friends.
What could be improved: Didn't realise the stairs were so steep , for someone in their 70s, struggled with hair dryer having to hold switch down while trying to dry hair.Abbie from United Kingdom – 25 March 2025 (10/10)
The location of the property was excellent! The flat was comfortable and has everything you would require for a self catered holiday! It’s beautifully decorated and very well looked after! We would definitely go back again and again!
What could be improved: It didn’t bother us but there is no parking at the flat, you can pay to stay at one of the local carparks and walk through Looe down to the apartment. The great thing for us was parking is free in some carparks are this time of year between the hours of 16:00 and 9:00- this worked out perfectly as we wanted to get out each day and explore the local area!Jina from United Kingdom – 17 March 2025 (9/10)
Great location. The apartment was very comfortable with a high end finish
What could be improved: The flat was accessed via stairs which were steep and narrow. Fortunately this was not a problem for us but would be a challenge if you did have mobility issues.Tom from United Kingdom – 28 February 2025 (10/10)
