You know what struck me first about Greensleeves? It’s tucked away on Carthew Close, which honestly feels like discovering a secret pocket of St Ives that most tourists never stumble across. I mean, you’re still close enough to hear the gulls and catch glimpses of the harbor between houses, but you’re away from the summer chaos that can make the town center feel like a bit of a scrum.

The thing about this place – and I say this as someone who’s stayed in plenty of Cornish B&Bs that promise the world – is that it actually delivers on the small details that matter. The rooms have that fresh, airy feel that comes from proper ventilation (not just throwing open windows and hoping for the best), and the beds are genuinely comfortable, not the sort of saggy affairs you sometimes get in seaside places. There’s decent water pressure too, which might sound boring but trust me, after a day exploring the coastal path, you’ll appreciate a proper shower. The breakfast situation is solid – locally sourced where it counts, and they seem to understand that not everyone wants the full Cornish heart attack on a plate every morning, though they’ll happily oblige if you do.

What really sets Greensleeves apart, though, is how it sits in the landscape of St Ives itself. You’re about a seven-minute walk from the Tate (down the hill and through some of those narrow streets that make you grateful you’re not driving), and maybe ten minutes from Porthmeor Beach if you’re heading for a proper swim. The location means you can actually park without wanting to tear your hair out – there’s space nearby, which anyone who’s tried to navigate St Ives in summer will tell you is worth its weight in Cornish pasties. Plus, you’re positioned perfectly for those early morning walks along the coast when the light is doing that magical thing it does here, all golden and soft before the crowds arrive. The owners clearly know their patch well, and they’re the sort who’ll point you toward the good fish and chips place (not the obvious tourist trap) or tell you which galleries are worth your time beyond the big names everyone mentions. It’s that 9.7 rating in action, really – places don’t hit those numbers by accident.
