Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Greenbank Hotel – I mean, Falmouth has so many waterfront places that promise harbor views and deliver a sliver of water between buildings. But this one actually delivers. The moment you walk through the front doors, you’re hit with this genuinely stunning panoramic view of the Carrick Roads, and I found myself just standing there for a minute taking it in. The building itself has this elegant Georgian thing going on without feeling stuffy – sort of like someone’s well-traveled aunt decorated it with taste and a decent budget.

What really won me over though was how the place just gets Falmouth right. You know how some hotels feel like they could be anywhere? This one feels properly rooted here. The staff actually know the area – when I asked about getting to Pendennis Castle, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward a tourist map, he told me about the footpath that cuts up from the harbor and mentioned the little café halfway up that does proper Cornish pasties (he was right, by the way). The restaurant takes advantage of being literally on the water – I watched fishing boats heading out early morning while having breakfast, and later saw the Falmouth-St Mawes ferry chugging past during dinner. There’s something deeply satisfying about eating fresh seafood while watching the boats that probably caught it.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place – well-maintained, comfortable beds, decent bathrooms – but it’s the details that matter. Mine faced the water (definitely worth requesting), and I could fall asleep to the gentle sound of rigging clinking in the marina below. Fair warning though: if you’re here during Falmouth Week in August, it gets properly busy and you’ll hear the revelry from the town center, but honestly that’s half the charm. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle during peak season – there’s a small hotel car park but it fills up fast, and the public options nearby aren’t exactly cheap. Check-in was smooth enough, though they do seem to get slammed around 3 PM when everyone arrives at once. The Wi-Fi actually works properly throughout the building (not always a given in these older properties), and the heating was efficient during my October stay when the weather turned proper Cornish – you know, sideways rain and all that. For the money and the location, especially if you snag one of those harbor-view rooms, it’s genuinely hard to beat in Falmouth.

Fantastic location, right on the harbour and just outside enough of Falmouth to be quieter traffic wise but near enough to walk into town and explore.

What could be improved: The rain, haha

  • Rita from United Kingdom – 25 May 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location. Room with fantastic view and well decorated. Plenty of options for tea/coffee in the room which included bottled water. Staff very friendly. Breakfast excellent

What could be improved: Very little variation between the pub food and the restaurant which is a shame as would have liked to dine in the restaurant ambience.
Room was very hot and bath could have done with an extra rail to get in as very high.

  • Dawn from United Kingdom – 16 May 2025 (9/10)

Lovely staff . location and room. Dog friendly as well.

What could be improved: Parking could have been easier but the location restricts that

  • Bernice from United Kingdom – 16 May 2025 (9/10)

Our suite was exceptional, very comfortable with the added bonus of a balcony.

What could be improved: The dinner menu in our opinion was disappointing, expected a lot more from two experienced chefs.

Went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had the most wonderful time in the hotel which is a short walk from town centre. Definitely recommend this gem and will definitely revisit.
