Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Foxglove in Camborne – I mean, it’s not exactly the first place that comes to mind when you think Cornwall getaway, right? But this little 4-star gem absolutely blew me away, and I can see why it’s sitting pretty with a 9.5 rating.

The thing about Camborne is that you’re perfectly positioned between the dramatic north coast and the gentler south without all the tourist madness of St. Ives or Padstow. The Foxglove gets this completely. From the moment you walk in, there’s this warm, unpretentious vibe that feels authentically Cornish – none of that overdone seaside kitsch you find elsewhere. The staff actually know the area inside and out (the receptionist gave me directions to this incredible hidden cove near Portreath that I never would’ve found otherwise), and they’re genuinely excited to share local spots rather than just pushing the obvious attractions.

What really struck me was the attention to detail without being fussy about it. The rooms have this perfect balance of modern comfort and character – you know what I mean, where everything works properly but it doesn’t feel like a sterile chain hotel. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m talking proper deep sleep after long coastal walks), and there’s actual decent coffee in the rooms, not those awful sachets. Parking was straightforward too, which honestly matters more than people realize when you’re hauling luggage and wanting to explore by car. The location puts you about fifteen minutes from Redruth if you need proper shopping or the train station, but you’re also incredibly close to some of Cornwall’s best mining heritage sites – the whole area around here tells this fascinating industrial story that most visitors completely miss. I spent an afternoon at Levant Mine and King Edward Mine nearby, then came back to the Foxglove feeling like I’d discovered a completely different side of Cornwall. Plus, you’re genuinely well-placed for day trips – Penzance and Land’s End are totally doable, but so are the gardens at Trebah or even a quick hop over to the Isles of Scilly if you’re feeling ambitious. The whole experience just felt refreshingly real, if that makes sense – like staying somewhere locals might actually recommend rather than another cookie-cutter tourist trap.

  • Eric from United Kingdom – 19 May 2025 (9/10)

The location is superb, overlooking green fields with a couple of horses in the paddock of the property. Kelly is
a very welcoming and helpful host and the stunning
coastline is only a couple of miles away. This is highly
recommended for solo travellers in particular.
