Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about the Fistral Beach Hotel? It’s actually positioned right where you want to be – perched on the Esplanade with those big windows facing straight out to Fistral Beach. I mean, when people say “beachfront,” they usually mean you can sort of see water if you crane your neck, but this place genuinely delivers on that promise. You can literally watch the surfers from your room, and honestly, that never gets old.
The adults-only thing initially made me wonder if it would feel stuffy, but it’s quite the opposite. There’s this relaxed vibe throughout – people are reading by the spa pool with actual books (not just scrolling phones), couples are having proper conversations over dinner, and you don’t have that constant background noise of kids running around the corridors. The spa itself is really well thought out, nothing too fancy or intimidating, just clean lines and treatments that actually work. I particularly loved how they’ve got this quiet zone that overlooks the beach – you can get a massage while listening to the waves crash below, which sounds cheesy but genuinely works.
What I appreciated most was how they’ve managed to feel upscale without being pretentious. The staff clearly know Newquay inside out – they’ll tell you the best time to hit Fistral for surfing (early morning, before the crowds), where to park in town during summer madness (spoiler: nowhere, but they’ve got decent rates for hotel parking), and which coastal path sections are worth the effort. The restaurant surprised me too – I was expecting typical hotel food, but they’re clearly working with local suppliers. The Cornish crab was fantastic, and they do this thing with local ales that actually pairs well with the menu instead of just being there for show.
Room-wise, it’s solid four-star territory – nothing groundbreaking, but everything works properly and the beds are genuinely comfortable. The sea-view rooms are worth the extra cost if you can swing it, especially during sunset. Fair warning though: if you’re here during peak surf season (basically April through October), it gets busy and you’ll hear some noise from the Esplanade below. Not rowdy party noise, just the general hum of people heading to and from the beach. Honestly, I found it quite pleasant – sort of adds to the seaside atmosphere.
The location really can’t be overstated. You’re a two-minute walk from some of the best surf beaches in Cornwall, but also close enough to Newquay’s center that you can wander up for dinner or drinks without needing a car. The coastal path starts basically at your doorstep, so if you’re into walking, you can head towards Crantock or Pentire Point easily. Just pack layers – the weather changes quickly here, and that sea breeze is lovely but can catch you off guard.
Bottom line: if you want to experience Newquay’s surf culture without staying in a backpacker hostel or dealing with family chaos, this place hits the sweet spot. It’s grown-up seaside without being boring, and the location alone makes it worth considering.

Fabulous hotel with staff who were really friendly and actively helpful (I asked about the spa and was immediately given a guided tour) and allowed me to use the facilities before check in which was really helpful. The views are amazing and everything was clean and comfortable. I was in the spa at 6.30am, on the beach at 7.30am for a walk, and having breakfast at 8.30am – great start to the day. Would stay here again.

My second stay, and will certainly be back. Staff are exceptional.
What could be improved: Sorry, just wish the car parking was more accessible, sometimes could not park in hotel grounds, but only a little problem !Phillips from United Kingdom – 19 June 2025 (9/10)
Only stayed for the one night, however we were really impressed with the Spa area and the space in our room. Fantastic Views over the beach from a sea view room, bar was excellent as well.
What could be improved: Nothing, we really enjoyed our stay.Hannah from United Kingdom – 16 June 2025 (9/10)
We stayed in the sea view Suite which was absolutely beautiful. The view was spectacular, the bed was lovely and the personal indoor hot tub with the same sea view was a beautiful touch! We even went for a hot stone massage in the spa which we thoroughly enjoyed. Its a short walk from the beach which was beautiful too and it helped that the weather was spectacular. The spa facilities with indoor pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna were absolutely lovely and well maintained. No shortage of towels, bathrobe or slippers! We chose the 2 course dinner and breakfast included option – Dinner – lamb, pork and beef were awesome but desserts were a tad disappointing. Breakfast – you had to pick items from a menu, so the amounts were limited, the buffet aspect only included yogurt, cereal, granola and fruit. The staff everywhere were simply lovely.
What could be improved: The restaurant was the only slightly disappointing aspect of our stay. They changed the menu recently, so it was different from the website- chicken main course was dry and too salty, in terms of dessert- pannacotta was bland and chocolate parfait was just awful.Michael from Mauritius – 15 June 2025 (9/10)
