You know what surprised me most about Teylu? It’s not actually a hotel at all – it’s this gorgeous family home tucked away on Perran Close that honestly feels more like staying at your most stylish friend’s place. I mean, when you’re looking for proper space for a big group (we’re talking six adults and three kids here), most places either stick you in cramped adjoining rooms or charge you an absolute fortune. This place just… gets it.

The location in Marhamchurch is brilliant if you know the area. You’re maybe ten minutes from Bude’s beaches – and I’m talking about the good ones, not just the touristy Summerleaze but also Widemouth Bay where the kids can actually play without dodging surfers every five seconds. The house sits on this quiet residential street where you can actually park without circling for twenty minutes, which honestly is half the battle won right there. What really sold me was the morning routine – you wake up to proper countryside quiet (no traffic noise, just maybe some birds), but you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere either. There’s a decent Co-op about five minutes away if you realize you’ve forgotten milk or the kids are demanding different cereal than whatever you packed.

Inside, it’s clear someone’s put real thought into how families actually live together on holiday. The kitchen’s big enough that you’re not constantly bumping into each other when everyone’s trying to make breakfast, and there’s proper counter space for spreading out. The living areas flow nicely – you can have the adults chatting in one spot while the kids are occupied elsewhere, but you’re not completely separated. I particularly loved that the bedrooms are configured sensibly; you’re not stuck with one person getting the tiny box room while someone else gets a palace. The whole place has this relaxed, lived-in feeling – nice furniture and fixtures, but nothing so precious you’re constantly worrying about the kids touching something. And honestly, after staying in places where you feel like you’re living in a showroom, that’s refreshing.

The thing that really sets Teylu apart is how it handles the practical stuff that makes or breaks a family holiday. Proper washing machine access (because let’s face it, kids are messy), enough bathroom space that you’re not queuing every morning, and – this is key – decent Wi-Fi throughout because someone’s always got homework or needs to check something. The outdoor space is lovely too; not huge, but enough for kids to burn off energy without you having to trek to a playground every single day. It’s the sort of place where you can genuinely relax instead of constantly managing logistics, which if you’ve done group holidays before, you’ll know is basically priceless.
