Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Fieldhead Hotel – you know how some four-star places can feel a bit stuffy or corporate. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It sits just far enough from Looe’s main hustle to feel peaceful, but you’re still close enough to walk down to the harbor without breaking a sweat (well, maybe a tiny one on the way back up – Looe’s definitely built on hills).

What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their stuff about the area. The woman at reception didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map; she actually marked out the quieter spots along the South West Coast Path and mentioned which pubs the locals favor over the touristy ones near the quay. The rooms have this comfortable, unfussy feel – nothing too fancy, but everything works properly, which honestly matters more than marble bathrooms when you’re sandy from the beach. I mean, the shower pressure was actually decent, and you’d be amazed how many coastal hotels mess that up. The beds are properly comfortable too, not those rock-hard mattresses some places think pass for “firm support.”

The breakfast situation deserves a mention because they do this thing where they’ll pack you a proper lunch if you’re heading out early for hiking – not just sad sandwiches, but actual decent food you’d want to eat while looking out over Whitsand Bay. Parking’s included, which saves you the headache of feeding meters or hunting for spots down in the town center (trust me, summer mornings in Looe can be a nightmare for parking). The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re in one of the rooms facing the road, you might catch some early morning traffic noise, but honestly, it’s nothing compared to staying right in town where the seagulls start their daily opera at dawn. The 8.7 rating makes complete sense – it’s one of those places that just gets the basics right while adding enough thoughtful touches to make you want to come back. You’re not paying resort prices, but you’re getting that feeling of actually being looked after rather than just processed through.

Reviews

  • Andrea from United Kingdom – 23 June 2025 (9/10)

Extremely clean and comfortable with lots of thought given to the rooms. Great set up with kettle, sink, fridge/freezer, hob, ample hanging space etc. we had a sea view room with super balcony area that made our stay extra special. Kelly was a gem and nothing was too much trouble for her… a very hard working lady who clearly cares about the hotel.

What could be improved: There wasn’t anything we didn’t like!

  • Robin from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (9/10)

Good to find a single room which also had a good number of power points! Newly renovated.

  • Eleni from United Kingdom – 21 June 2025 (9/10)

Property was modern, clean and everything I needed
    Facing the beach.
It accommodated my little dog, we were told we could take her into the communal area’s too.
Made very welcome by the young lady.

What could be improved: Property was not as close to the Looe harbour as I would’ve liked.
But will not stop me from booking again.

  • Gary from United Kingdom – 21 June 2025 (8/10)

Clean, nice rooms. Balcony has no privacy and very close to neighbours. Door closures create noise at night. Enjoyed the breakfast.

  • Shepherd from United Kingdom – 19 June 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: There was no WiFi has we could not connect

  • Craig from United Kingdom – 18 June 2025 (9/10)

Worth staying just for the sea views. The rooms were in an excellent condition. There was a nicely sized balcony with table and chairs, which made for a lovely space to sit outside during the evening. The beds were very comfortable and the facilities in the room were more than ample.

  • Nelson from United Kingdom – 17 June 2025 (8/10)

    Nice quiet place to visit.

What could be improved: No cooked breakfast.

  • Norman from United Kingdom – 13 June 2025 (8/10)

    How very quiet it was.

What could be improved: The distance of hotel from centre of Looe.
