Fabulous 2 Bed Cottage – Outstanding Sea Views

Honestly, when I first pulled up to 19 Polkirt Hill, I wasn’t expecting much – the street’s pretty narrow and you’re sort of wondering if you took a wrong turn. But then you step inside this cottage and, well, the sea views absolutely smack you in the face in the best possible way. I mean, Mevagissey’s harbor spreads out below like someone’s painted it just for you, and on clear mornings you can actually see the fishing boats heading out while you’re still in your pajamas with coffee.

The cottage itself feels properly lived-in (in a good way, not like someone’s neglected it). Two bedrooms that actually fit real-sized beds – you know how some places claim “sleeps four” but really mean “sleeps four very small, very friendly people.” The kitchen’s got everything you need, though I’d bring sharp knives if you’re planning serious cooking. What really got me was the little details: proper thick towels, decent water pressure in the shower, and windows that open wide enough to let in those salty sea breezes. You can hear the gulls in the morning, but it’s not that aggressive seaside racket that wakes you at 5 AM – more like gentle background chatter. Parking’s right there too, which honestly saves you from the nightmare of trying to find a spot down in the village during summer. The walk down to Mevagissey proper takes maybe five minutes, past those typical Cornish cottages that look like they’re defying gravity on the hillside.

Here’s what locals won’t tell you: this spot puts you perfectly between the touristy bits and the real Cornwall. You’re close enough to walk to the harbor for proper fish and chips at Sharksfin (skip the fancy places, honestly), but far enough up the hill that you escape the day-tripper crowds by teatime. The Eden Project’s about twenty minutes if you’re doing the tourist circuit, but you’ll probably find yourself just sitting on the cottage terrace watching the light change over St. Austell Bay. I spent way more time than planned just… watching boats, which sounds boring but actually isn’t when you’ve got a glass of wine and nowhere urgent to be. The cottage gets proper morning sun too, so breakfast on the terrace becomes this whole thing. Fair warning though – book early if you want summer dates, because places like this with genuine character (and views that aren’t just estate agent exaggeration) fill up fast. The 9.1 rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be some fancy hotel, just a really solid base for exploring Cornwall that happens to have killer views and feels like staying at your well-off friend’s holiday place.

  Location and view make this property what it is. It’s cozy nicely decorated and has a top quality shower. The owner was brilliant, making sure there was plenty of communication regarding things in the property. Great facilities and a logged in Netflix account. will stay again.

  What could be improved: Not much about the property itself, but walking up and down Polkirt Hill with cars coming past was a bit stressful.
  A very minor point, but the downstairs TV is about to lose iPlayer access in October. There are no other apps already. Never turned on the upstairs TV so don't know about that one.

  Location was amazing for Mevagissey and Port Mellon
  
  What could be improved: The main bedroom was lovely with two windows and great views across the harbour. The bed was a little soft for our preference. A better mattress would have improved our comfort from average to excellent.

  The views from the upper windows were amazing, waking up to the views was quite incredible.
  The location was great, literally a couple of minutes walk from either the harbour or the small town with a great selection of Boutique shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants
  
  The host was really attentive and answered any queries that we had straight away.
  
  The cottage was equipped with everything that you need for your stay and we had an amazing short break
  
  What could be improved: As it was October when we visited, it did start to quite chilly, it would have been nice to have had a fire or some way of controlling the heating.
