You know what hits you first when you arrive at this place? It’s actually the silence – well, except for the gentle lapping of water against the quay below. The Enchanting Harbourside Cottage sits right on West Street at Boatman’s Steps, and honestly, I can’t think of a more perfect spot in Polruan. You’re literally perched above the harbor with these sweeping views across to Fowey that’ll have you reaching for your camera every five minutes (I mean it – the light changes constantly throughout the day).

The cottage itself feels like someone’s beloved family retreat that they’ve decided to share – there’s this lovely lived-in quality without being shabby, if you know what I mean. The panoramic windows make the most of that harbor position, and you’ll find yourself just standing there watching the little passenger ferry chugging back and forth between Polruan and Fowey. The rooms have this cozy, slightly nautical feel that works perfectly with the location – nothing too themed or over the top, just comfortable furniture and those incredible water views from practically every window. What really got me was the attention to small details… proper thick towels, a well-stocked kitchen if you fancy cooking (though honestly, with Hall Walk right on your doorstep, you might want to grab supplies in Fowey and have a picnic instead), and they’ve actually thought about things like decent Wi-Fi and phone signal, which can be hit-or-miss in this part of Cornwall.

The location is just brilliant for exploring – you can catch the little chain ferry across to Fowey in about two minutes, or if you’re feeling energetic, the South West Coast Path runs right past the cottage. I’d definitely recommend timing your stay to avoid the peak summer crowds if you can, though even in busy season, Polruan stays pretty peaceful compared to its more famous neighbor across the water. Parking can be a bit tight on West Street itself, but there’s usually space up the hill – just remember it’s a proper Cornish hill, so pack light for the walk down! The whole setup feels wonderfully authentic, like you’re staying in a real Cornish fishing village rather than some sanitized tourist spot. Fair warning though – once you’ve had your morning coffee watching the boats in the harbor, you might start browsing property websites. This place has that effect on people.

  A beautifully decorated, located and well equipped cottage. There was plenty of kitchen crockery cutlery…. You name it they had thought of everything!!!
  Beds pillows linen and towels are exceptional quality.
  The views are wonderful and the location so much quieter than Fowey!
  
  What could be improved: Nothing to dislike however a tip the local convenience shop (which is well stocked)closes ay 5pm
