Hotel Description
So here’s the thing about Drang House – it’s one of those places that immediately tells you what you’re getting into right there in the name. Every single room involves stairs, and I mean that literally. The building sits right on Broad Street in the heart of Padstow, which honestly is both a blessing and something to consider if you’re planning to roll heavy suitcases around.
The location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things. You’re literally steps away from the harbor – I could hear the gentle clatter of rigging and the occasional seagull having a proper argument at dawn, which actually became quite soothing after the first night. Rick Stein’s empire is practically on your doorstep (his original restaurant is maybe a two-minute walk), and the narrow streets that make Padstow so charming are right there to explore. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle – there’s no dedicated hotel parking, but there are public car parks within reasonable walking distance. Just factor in a few extra minutes if you’re hauling luggage, especially since, well, stairs.
The rooms themselves have that classic Cornish character you’d expect from a 4-star place in a historic building. Mine had these lovely old wooden beams and windows that looked out over the bustle of Broad Street below. The furnishings felt thoughtfully chosen rather than just ordered from a hotel catalog – you know what I mean? There’s clearly been effort put into making each space feel individual. The stairs thing isn’t just quirky marketing either; it’s the reality of staying in a centuries-old building where rooms are tucked into different levels and corners. I’d definitely pack light or be prepared for a bit of a workout. That said, the staff were brilliant about helping with bags during check-in, which takes some of the stress out of it. The whole place has this cozy, almost residential feel – you’re staying in someone’s carefully restored home rather than a generic hotel box. Breakfast was served in a lovely dining room that catches the morning light beautifully, and they clearly source locally (the Cornish bacon was exceptional). Honestly, for the location and the character you’re getting, that 8.6 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be a sleek modern hotel, and that’s exactly why it works so well in Padstow.

Great location, spotlessly clean with everything you required.
What could be improved: Not very soundproof, we could hear the people in the other room and there were gaps around our door which also affected sound travelling. No blackout blind.Jacqueline from United Kingdom – 15 June 2025 (8/10)
The location was perfect and the room was very quaint.

Fantastic flat in a wonderful position. Very comfortable bed, huge shower room, heated towel rail, separate lounge area. The owner was very responsive and helpful. Key is easily picked up at the great bar next door. Yes there are stairs but Martha carried our bag up even when. I said we’d manage. Terrific service. Parking is very close by. You drop the bags then park. Don’t hesitate to book.
What could be improved: We were sorry to only stay 1 night in this great flat in a pretty seaside town.Clare from United Kingdom – 25 May 2025 (9/10)
Fantastic location.

Stunning location and a very quirky property
What could be improved: The bed was slightly smaller than we expected. Especially given the fact that the room was big enough to accommodate a bigger bed. Also the pillows were totally flat.Stephen from United Kingdom – 17 May 2025 (9/10)
