You know what struck me first about Dozmary Cottage? It’s one of those places that feels completely removed from everything – and I mean that in the best possible way. Tucked away on Coombe Farm just outside Trewen, you’re basically in the middle of Bodmin Moor country, where the landscape still has that wild, slightly mysterious feel Cornwall’s famous for. The cottage itself is exactly what you’d hope for in a 4-star rural retreat – stone walls, proper character, and that satisfying sense of solitude you can’t fake. Honestly, if you’re looking for nightlife or quick access to shops, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to actually disconnect and wake up to nothing but countryside sounds, it’s pretty much perfect.

What really makes this place work is how genuine it feels. The owners clearly know what they’re doing – that 8.7 rating isn’t accidental – and you can tell they’ve thought about the small stuff that matters. The cottage has been updated without losing its soul, which is harder to pull off than you’d think. You’ve got modern comforts (the heating actually works, thank god) but it still feels like you’re staying somewhere with proper history. The kitchen’s well-equipped if you want to cook – and you probably will, since the nearest proper restaurants are back toward Launceston. Speaking of which, you’re about 15 minutes from town when you need supplies, but far enough out that you won’t hear traffic or deal with crowds. Parking’s right there, no stress about finding a spot or lugging bags up three flights of stairs.

I’ll be honest – this area isn’t for everyone. If you need constant entertainment or get twitchy without WiFi every five minutes, you might struggle. But if you appreciate having Jamaica Inn practically on your doorstep, or you’re the type who gets excited about easy access to proper moorland walks, then you’ll get why people rave about this place. The location puts you right in the heart of some of Cornwall’s most dramatic scenery, and on clear days the views go on forever. It’s the kind of spot where you actually use words like “restorative” without feeling ridiculous. Plus, you’re well-positioned for day trips – the coast isn’t far if you want to mix moor and sea, and there’s something satisfying about having a cozy cottage to return to after a day of exploring. Just remember to stock up on groceries before you settle in, and maybe bring a good book or two. Trust me on that one.

  We absolutely loved our stay at Dozmary Cottage. The cottage is cute and very comfortable. Our host Jeremy was very helpful and its a great add on that you can buy home produced meat from the farm and another local farmer.
  
  The Cottage is perfectly situated for travelling along the north coast of Cornwall.
