Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Nancecliff Cottages? The name honestly doesn’t do it justice – I was expecting something quaint but basic, and instead found myself on West Looe Hill looking down at one of Cornwall’s most charming working fishing towns. The cottages are perched just high enough that you get this gorgeous view over the Looe Valley without feeling like you’re miles from everything. And here’s the thing that really sold me: they actually mean it when they say dog friendly. I mean, there are water bowls by the entrance, proper secure gardens, and the staff genuinely light up when they see your four-legged family member rather than just tolerating them.

The location is honestly perfect if you know Looe at all. You’re about a ten-minute walk down the hill to the harbor – steep going down, bit of a workout coming back up, but nothing terrible. What I loved is that you’re close enough to hear the gulls and catch the salt air, but far enough up that you don’t get the weekend crowds stumbling past your window at closing time. The cottages themselves feel properly Cornish without being twee about it – thick stone walls that actually keep the place cool in summer and cozy when the weather turns, and windows positioned to catch the morning light just right. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that hovering-around-the-lobby business you get at chain places.

I’ll be honest, the 4-star rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be some luxury spa resort, but everything works properly and there’s genuine attention to detail. The sort of place where someone’s clearly thought about what actual families (with actual pets) need when they’re away from home. Parking’s included and adequate, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with Looe’s narrow streets during peak season. If you’re planning to visit in July or August, honestly, book early – locals told me these cottages fill up fast because word’s gotten around that it’s one of the better dog-friendly options between Polperro and Fowey. The 8.5 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s the kind of place you’d happily return to, and I suspect a lot of guests do exactly that.

  Beautiful view from the garden. Decor was well thought out and the bag of treats and cakes were a very cute touch!
  
  What could be improved: The living room is so uncomfortable, there isn’t anywhere to sit and relax, especially when travelling with people that need to rest up in the evening. This place would be amazing if there was a comfortable sofa and an armchair! Finding the property was a challenge, a clearer signpost, or clear name on the bin would have made a HUGE difference.

  The property exceeded our expectations. On arrival we were left Easter cupcakes and chocolates, which were delicious and such a thoughtful touch. Our dog was also left a goodie bag with treats and toys. Property was so well equipped, clean and comfortable. A gem of a place for guests with pets! We would definitely stay here again, highly recommended.

  The views from the garden were amazing. Bed was comfortable, kitchen had all the usual essentials and more. Central location for shops and near to the harbour.
  
  What could be improved: I found Now TV to be disappointing as I only tend to watch Freeview channels which I could not find. Unsure if West Looe does recycling but there was no mention of this in the instruction folder..I usually recycle everything I can so found throwing away tins, cardboard, plastic, glass etc shameful.
