Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Crylla Valley Cottages – honestly, the name made me think it’d be some cheesy countryside setup. But the moment you drive down that little lane off the A38 near Notter Bridge, you realize this place is actually something special. The cottages themselves are tucked into this gorgeous valley setting (hence the name, obviously), and there’s this immediate sense of peace that hits you. I mean, you’re still only about ten minutes from Saltash and maybe twenty from Plymouth, but it feels like you’ve escaped to proper countryside. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that stuffy hotel lobby nonsense, just friendly people who actually seemed to know the area inside and out.

What really got me though was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between rustic charm and modern comfort. The cottages have character – we’re talking exposed beams and proper stone walls – but then you’ve got heated bathroom floors and kitchen setups that actually work for more than just making tea. The pool area surprised me too; it’s not huge, but it’s heated year-round and there’s something quite magical about swimming while looking out over the Cornish countryside. The spa is honestly where I spent way too much time – they do this deep tissue massage that sorted out months of desk job damage, and the therapist knew her stuff about which treatments work best after long drives (apparently loads of guests arrive a bit stiff from the journey down). The gym’s decent enough if you need to burn off some of those Cornish pasty calories, though let’s be honest, you’re probably here to relax, not train for a marathon.

Here’s the thing that really sets this place apart – the staff genuinely know Cornwall. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but they pointed me toward this incredible little pub in St. Germans that I never would’ve found otherwise, and gave me the inside scoop on which beaches are actually swimmable in October (turns out, more than you’d think with a wetsuit). Parking’s never an issue, which is a godsend if you’ve dealt with Cornish village parking situations before. The only minor gripe I’d have is that the WiFi can be a bit patchy in some cottages – though honestly, that might be a blessing depending on why you’re here. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels properly Cornish but doesn’t make you rough it, and you want access to genuinely good facilities without the corporate hotel vibe, this place delivers. Just book early if you’re planning a summer visit – word’s getting out about this little gem.

Super comfy bed, immaculately clean, the most clean accomadation we have ever stayed in.😊

What could be improved: Everything was perfect thank you 😊

  • Jason from United Kingdom – 12 June 2025 (10/10)

Lovely place, host/office is friendly and helpful. Great facilities, pub a short walk from the place. Well worth a visit as it's location is just off the main road providing good access to this part of Conrwall.

  • Stewart from United Kingdom – 21 March 2025 (10/10)

Staff were second to none and the whole site was spotless

The one bedroom cottage was exceptionally spacious with an open plan living dining and a kitchen with fridge, freezer, oven, dishwasher and washing machine!
Upstairs the large bedroom had king size comfortable bed with loads of storage plus a bathroom with bath and shower. If that wasn't enough there was a separate toilet. The outside space was great with patio table and bench seats.
For us the location was easy to get to off the A38 and just over an hour from all the places we wanted to visit.

My husband is not one for travelling/sightseeing but for him to say he would stay there again says it all.
A peaceful place to chill out and not venture far with enough amenities within 3 miles radius.

We didn't take advantage of the bonus of access to nearby leisure facilities so I can't comment.

  • Tracey from Australia – 5 March 2025 (9/10)

Beautiful location, immaculately clean and using the nearby pool was a great addition. Staff were lovely.

What could be improved: I came from Australia. I arrived late at night and couldn't make a cup of tea. There weren't the few teabags I'd thought would be there. Next time I'll remember to bring some.

  • Tom from United Kingdom – 7 October 2024 (9/10)

  • Vasilisa from United Kingdom – 19 August 2024 (9/10)

Everything was wonderful, very clean, we found everything we needed for meal preps and more. The SPA and pool facilities really were 10 minutes drive from the property and included, we really enjoyed the waterslide there! Not a bad place to travel around East Cornwall from if you have a car.

What could be improved: Felt a bit pricy for such location
The houses are quite dark and it's a humid area with ferns

  • Christine from United Kingdom – 27 July 2024 (10/10)

Self catering …location , walk over to the pub over the bridge, lots of shops a short drive away …

What could be improved: Nothing we loved it …

  • Mark from United Kingdom – 21 July 2024 (10/10)

Nice and clean. Spacious nice to stay

What could be improved: Nothing bad to say really.
