Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to this little cottage on Trencreek Lane – I mean, the name is a bit of a mouthful, right? But you know what hit me first? The absolute quiet. We’re talking about that rare kind of silence where you actually notice birds chirping instead of car engines, which is pretty remarkable considering you’re literally a stone’s throw from Newquay’s chaos.

The cottage itself is one of those places that feels like someone’s beloved family home rather than a rental property. There’s a proper garden out back – not just some sad patio with two chairs – where I actually found myself having morning coffee because, well, why wouldn’t you? The parking situation is brilliant too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Saint Columb Minor’s narrow lanes will appreciate. No circling the block or squeezing into impossible spaces here. What really sold me on the location, though, was how close you are to the coastal path without dealing with the Newquay crowds. You can walk to some absolutely stunning stretches of coastline where the only company you’ll have are the occasional dog walkers and maybe some surfers checking the breaks.

Inside, everything just works the way it should – the shower has actual water pressure (thank god), the kitchen has all the bits you need if you want to cook, and the beds are properly comfortable, not those rock-hard mattresses you sometimes get in seaside rentals. I loved how they’ve kept the cottage character without making it feel like you’re staying in a museum. There are these little touches that show someone actually cares about the place – decent coffee in the welcome basket, extra blankets that don’t smell musty, that sort of thing. The WiFi is solid too, which matters if you’re trying to work remotely or just want to research where to eat dinner. Speaking of which, you’re close enough to pop into Newquay for the restaurant scene, but far enough away that you won’t hear the Friday night revelry. It’s honestly the perfect setup if you want to explore Cornwall’s north coast properly – you’ve got easy access to both the touristy bits when you want them and the quieter coastal villages when you don’t. The 9.5 rating makes complete sense once you’re there; it’s just one of those places that gets all the details right without trying too hard.

  Our stay at The Surf Cottage was nothing short of perfect. The property itself was beautiful, exceptionally clean, and so well thought out – it had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing break. The little touches throughout the cottage made it feel really special and welcoming.
  
  A huge thank you to our host, Maria, who truly went above and beyond. When my friend contacted her about my birthday, she arranged a wonderful surprise – balloons, birthday banners, chocolates, and even a bottle of fizz waiting for us on arrival. It made the whole experience unforgettable and so personal.
  
  The location was ideal – peaceful and quiet, just a few miles outside of Newquay town, giving us the best of both worlds. We couldn’t have asked for more and would absolutely love to return!

  Super cosy and beautiful cottage with everything you could possibly need. Loved the projector! Good location. Only a 5 minute drive into Newquay Town. Felt right at home.
