Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Cornish Holiday in Bodannon – you know how these coastal places can be hit or miss. But walking into this place on Towan Road, I actually stopped and thought “okay, this feels different.” It’s one of those spots where someone clearly gives a damn about the details, and you can tell from the moment you step inside. The whole vibe is properly Cornish but without trying too hard, if that makes sense.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to capture that authentic Cornwall feeling without falling into the usual seaside hotel traps. I mean, you’re literally a stone’s throw from Porthtowan beach – and I’m talking the kind of throw where you can hear the waves from your room at night, which is either perfect or potentially annoying depending on how you sleep. The staff actually know the area inside and out, too. When I asked about avoiding the tourist crowds at the beach, they pointed me toward the quieter end near the rocks (locals’ secret, apparently) and mentioned the best times to hit the coastal path before it gets mental with day-trippers.

The rooms themselves are thoughtfully done – not flashy, just really well considered. You get proper blackout curtains (thank god), and the beds are actually comfortable, not just hotel-standard firm. There’s this attention to small stuff that matters when you’re actually staying somewhere: decent water pressure, outlets where you need them, enough surface space for your things. Parking’s sorted without any drama, which anyone who’s tried to park near a Cornish beach in summer will appreciate. What struck me most was how quiet it stays despite being so close to everything – Porthtowan can get pretty lively during peak season, but somehow this place feels like a proper retreat. The 9.6 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place on the coast, but it absolutely nails what it sets out to do. You know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want – a place that just works brilliantly without any fuss.

  The perfect stay for a group. The location was moments away from the beach, and the property was equipped with everything you could need. The host was incredible and sent us a guide- I couldn’t fault the stay. Would absolutely recommend this property!

  Could not fault anything at all. Was easy to locate and the hosts were friendly. Helped out with what ever we needed. For the money we paid this place exceeded expectations! Beautiful little village, would definitely go back!

  Brilliant holiday at Bodannon. Very comfortable with everything needed for a holiday for 8. Great location and fantastic hot tub. We’d definitely return.
