Hotel Description
You know what surprised me most about the Copthorne in Tintagel? It’s actually perched right on Atlantic Road where you can hear the waves properly – not just some distant ocean soundtrack, but the real deal crashing against those dramatic Cornish cliffs. I mean, when you’re dealing with a place that’s basically built on Arthurian legend (the castle ruins are literally a five-minute walk), you sort of expect hotels to lean too hard into the whole medieval thing. But this place gets it right.
The building itself has that solid, unpretentious feel that works perfectly here – it’s not trying to be a castle or some faux-rustic inn. Honestly, after driving down those narrow Tintagel roads (and trust me, you’ll be grateful for their parking situation), walking into a place that feels genuinely comfortable rather than themed is refreshing. The staff actually know the area too, which makes a difference when you’re asking about tide times for exploring the beach caves or whether it’s worth battling the crowds at the castle ruins early morning versus late afternoon. Check-in was smooth – none of that hovering-around-the-lobby nonsense you get at some places.
What really sold me was stepping into our room and realizing you can see across to the castle headland from most of the sea-facing rooms. Not just a glimpse, but proper views where you can watch the light change on those ruins throughout the day. The rooms themselves are well-thought-out without being fussy – good blackout curtains (essential when you’re this far west and summer days stretch forever), decent shower pressure, and windows that actually open so you can fall asleep to the sound of the Atlantic. I mean, the whole point of staying in Tintagel is the setting, right? This place delivers on that without the premium pricing you’d expect from somewhere with a 9.5 rating.
The location works brilliantly for exploring beyond just the obvious tourist bits too – you’re close enough to walk down to Tintagel Haven beach when the tide’s right, and it’s an easy drive to Boscastle if you want proper Cornish pubs and that incredible harbor walk. During summer it can get busy around the village center (King Arthur brings in the crowds, obviously), but the hotel’s position means you can escape the day-tripper rush pretty easily. Plus, being right on Atlantic Road puts you on the coastal path network, so if you’re into walking, you can head north toward Bossiney or south toward Trebarwith Strand without dealing with car parks and crowds.

Everything was brilliant. Lovely bungalow well equipped with everything you needed. Like home from home except tidy! I have a teenage daughter her and her friend enjoyed exploring Tintagel
What could be improved: Bath towels could do to be a bit bigger two of us were larger ladies and struggled to cover our modesty 😂Ralph from Germany – 12 July 2024 (10/10)
Beautiful bungalow style house in historic seaside village. 100m to high street. Pubs and shops close by. Very helpful owner and clean, quiet and friendly house. Close to South west costal path. Beaches and other historic places in short distance. Great for families.

Great Location. Newly decorated and the host was great.
What could be improved: Very small thing – We were a bit worried about the carpet getting dirty/messy with small kids ( 4 and 8 have ). The is carpet under the dining table – great for adults, not so great for messy kids.
The only other thing was the maybe some more drying facilities for after beach days.Robert from United Kingdom – 30 May 2024 (10/10)
Location is excellent for the village and for walking the coastline.
Internally it’s well laid out, with everything you need & very clean!!!
What could be improved: Nothing!Vanessa from United Kingdom – 30 August 2023 (10/10)
Second time staying here. Perfect location for short walk into town. Very well equipped, comfortable and clean. Owners very friendly
What could be improved: Only negative is that it is quite difficult to get on to the drive as the property is quite close to the one next door which is having building works. That said, we managed it but it is very tight.
