Hotel Description

You know what surprised me most about Cockles Farm Bungalow? It’s tucked away in Middle Pill – and I mean properly tucked away – yet you’re literally ten minutes from the chaos of Plymouth if you need a proper city fix. I’ll be honest, when I first pulled up the gravel drive, I thought my GPS had lost its mind. The place sits in this quiet pocket between Saltash and the Tamar, where you can actually hear the water lapping if you step outside at night (which I did, probably more than I should have).

The bungalow itself feels like someone’s beloved family retreat that they’ve decided to share – and I mean that in the best possible way. Everything’s been thoughtfully done without being fussy about it. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many 4-star places mess this up), and there’s this lovely sitting area where you can spread out properly. What really got me though was the kitchen setup – it’s one of those rare holiday lets where you can tell the owners actually cook, because there’s proper knives and decent pans instead of the usual hodgepodge of mismatched stuff. The morning light comes streaming through these big windows, and honestly, making coffee there became this whole ritual I started looking forward to.

Here’s the thing about the location that the booking sites don’t quite capture – you’re in proper Cornwall countryside, complete with the narrow lanes that’ll have you holding your breath when a tractor appears around the corner, but Saltash town center is close enough for groceries or a pub meal without it feeling like an expedition. The Tamar Valley walks are right there too, and if you’re into that sort of thing (which I discovered I am, apparently), you can lose entire afternoons wandering around. Parking’s never an issue, which is more of a relief than it should be, and the hosts left these genuinely helpful local recommendations – not just the obvious tourist spots, but places like the little farm shop in St. Stephens that does incredible pasties. The only minor thing I’d mention is that mobile signal can be a bit patchy depending on your network, but honestly? After the first day, I sort of stopped caring. Sometimes it’s nice to properly disconnect, even if it wasn’t entirely intentional.

Quite , comfort, clean, warmth, light,

What could be improved: Would have been helpful for dinner plates to be put in a place easier to reach. Also would have preferred duvet’s to have been Cotton content.

Great location close to Saltash…..no traffic. Loved the peacocks at the farm opposite. My son enjoyed the football nets which were in the adjoining field. Beds were very comfy. Great views towards the Taymar bridge. The welcome pack was excellent.
