Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Coachhouse? It’s tucked away in this quiet spot in St Ives where you can actually hear yourself think – which, if you’ve been to St Ives in summer, you’ll know is pretty rare. The place sits just far enough from the harbor chaos but close enough that you can wander down to the Tate St Ives in about five minutes without breaking a sweat.

I mean, calling it a four-star feels almost underwhelming when you see what they’ve done with the space. The building itself has this lovely Cornish character – you can tell someone actually cared about preserving the original features instead of just slapping modern fixtures everywhere like some places do. The rooms are genuinely comfortable (not just Instagram-pretty), and honestly, the beds are the kind you sink into after a day of trudging around those cobbled streets. What I really appreciated was the attention to small stuff – decent shower pressure, which you’d be surprised how many places get wrong, and windows that actually open properly so you can hear the seagulls without them dive-bombing your breakfast.

The location is actually brilliant once you figure out the lay of the land. You’re walking distance from Porthmeor Beach – the big surfing one – but also close enough to nip over to Porthminster when you want calmer waters and that amazing beach café. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in St Ives (let’s be honest, it’s a nightmare everywhere), but they’ve sorted that out better than most places I’ve stayed. The 9.1 rating makes total sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be some flashy resort, but everything just… works. Staff seem to actually live locally too, so they know whether the tide’s right for rock pooling or if the coast path to Zennor is clear. I’d definitely come back, especially in shoulder season when you can enjoy St Ives without feeling like you’re in a theme park.

Reviews

  • Jodie from United Kingdom – 24 May 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful and clean, friendly hosts and a good location with an attention to detail.

What could be improved: Lack of parking, but understand that is reflected in the price and due to certain access rights on a shared property.

  • Elizabeth from United Kingdom – 12 May 2025 (9/10)

Good location for us, spotlessly clean and well equipped except no egg cups

What could be improved: Towels were hard and only 2 pillows. We were not informed beforehand that we could not park outside. We were told we could park in the rugby club car park 10 mins walk or the council car park 4 mins walk. We passed the club on the way down and it was definitely more than 10 mins and a very steep road with pavements on one side of the road in places and no pavements at all towards the top of the road. We used the council car park which cost us £20.
