Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Clevedon House? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street that somehow feels completely removed from the madness of central Newquay, but you’re literally a five-minute walk from Towan Beach. I mean, you get the best of both worlds – you can actually sleep at night without drunk surfers stumbling past your window, but you’re still close enough to grab fish and chips on the seafront when the craving hits.

The parking situation alone makes this place worth considering (honestly, if you’ve ever tried to find a spot near Newquay’s beaches in summer, you’ll understand). They’ve got their own little car park, which feels like winning the lottery during peak season. The owner – lovely woman, actually – checked us in personally and immediately started rattling off all these local tips. She told us about this brilliant little café on Fore Street that does proper Cornish pasties, not the tourist traps, and mentioned that if we walked down to the harbour early morning, we’d catch the fishermen bringing in their catch. That kind of insider knowledge you just don’t get at the chain hotels.

The rooms are what I’d call proper comfortable – not trying to be trendy or minimal, just genuinely nice to stay in. Our room had this view that caught just a slice of the sea between the houses, and honestly, there’s something quite lovely about glimpsing the ocean from your window while you’re having your morning tea. The beds are actually decent (you know how hit-or-miss B&B beds can be), and the shower had proper pressure, which after a day of surfing or hiking the coastal path, you really appreciate. What really got me was the little touches – fresh flowers, locally made biscuits with the tea tray, that sort of thing. Not fancy, just thoughtful.

The location is genuinely brilliant once you get your bearings. Clevedon Road is this tree-lined street that feels properly Cornish – you can hear the seagulls but not the traffic. Walk one way and you hit the town center with all the shops and restaurants, walk the other and you’re on the coast path heading toward Fistral Beach. If you’re into surfing, Fistral’s obviously the big draw, but I actually preferred the smaller beaches nearby – less crowded, easier to find a good spot. The owners know all this stuff and they’re genuinely enthusiastic about sharing it, not in that forced hospitality way, but like they actually want you to have a good time in their town.

Look, Newquay can be a bit much during summer – it’s definitely a party town – but staying at Clevedon House felt like having a calm base while still being part of everything. The 9.3 rating isn’t just people being nice; this place actually delivers on what it promises. It’s not trying to be some luxury resort, it’s just a really well-run, comfortable place to stay with people who know what they’re doing. After staying at plenty of places along the Cornish coast, I’d definitely book here again.

One of the best places I’ve stayed on Newquay. Clean, comfortable and importable warm! The perfect snug cottage to come back to after a session in the waves. Would definitely book again.

What a wonderful place, we absolutely loved our stay! Our kids were right at home thanks to the exceptionally well stoked games/toy cupboard. Had quite a bit of rain during our stay, kids didn't care…they were too busy playing with the extensive farm set up. Well stoked kitchen, comfortable beds, and a short walk down the hill to Newquay. We didn't want to leave.

Everything was perfect! Home from home, immaculately clean, lots of household things in the house for use meaning we didn’t have to pack an entire barrage of utensils sponges etc. Double bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in, lots of space for a big family, night lights, stair gate, the most helpful host ever, parking spot round the back of the house, even a nice selection of toys, games and colouring bits for little ones.

What could be improved: Nothing! Can’t wait to return next year!
