

Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Chy Lowarth? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street just off the main drag, but you’re literally a three-minute walk from Penzance’s harbor front. I mean, you can actually hear the gulls in the morning, but not the traffic noise that plagues some of the seafront places. The owners clearly know what they’re doing – this is proper Cornish hospitality without any of that stuffy hotel nonsense.
The building itself has this lovely Victorian character that hasn’t been modernized to death, if you know what I mean. The rooms feel genuinely cozy rather than cramped (which honestly can be hit or miss in these old townhouses). What really impressed me was the attention to detail – proper thick towels, decent coffee setup, and windows that actually open properly for those warm summer evenings. The breakfast situation is brilliant too, with local suppliers doing the heavy lifting. I’m talking proper Cornish bacon and eggs from farms you could probably walk to, plus they’ll pack you something to go if you’re catching an early Scilly boat from the harbor.
Here’s the thing about staying on Polwithen Road – you’re close enough to stumble back from Chapel Street’s pubs (the Turks Head does an excellent pint, by the way), but far enough up the hill that you escape the weekend noise. Plus, if you’re planning day trips around West Penwith, you can actually get your car out in the morning without the harbor area traffic chaos. The train station’s maybe a seven-minute walk if you’re heading up-country, and there’s decent parking which – trust me on this – is worth its weight in gold during summer season. The hosts have clearly put thought into making this work for actual travelers rather than just Instagram photos, and with a 9.6 rating, they’re obviously getting something very right indeed.

Home from home. Couldn't fault anything.
In addition to tea, coffee, butter & preserves,etc, Sue kindly included milk & bread. If that wasn't enough, there was even a bottle of prosecco.
We took advantage of using the excellent bus services with our bus passes. Truly a bonus for not having to use the car during our stay.

Accommodation was very spacious, clean and generously stocked.
Hosts Sue and Steve were super friendly and helpful without being intrusive.

The host is lovely and showed me around the place so I knew where everything was. Having an iron was super handy, as I was travelling for work.
The bed is extremely comfortable and there's plenty of space in the main living area.
It's in a super convenient location, with a 10 minute walk into town and a short drive to where I had to work.

Lovely garden outlook and being able to sit in garden, comfortable bed and living area and Sue was friendly and helpful with advice for places to visit also supplying bread and milk etc.
I think it is highly likely we will return.
