Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about this place? It’s actually tucked away on Causewayhead, which honestly took me a minute to find – but that’s sort of the point. While everyone else is stomping around the main drag, you’re in this quiet corner that feels properly residential but you can still walk to everything in about three minutes. The artist’s residence thing isn’t just marketing fluff either; there’s this creative energy in the space that’s hard to fake, with original artwork on the walls and these thoughtful design touches that feel intentional rather than hotel-generic.
The two bedrooms are genuinely spacious – I mean, you’re not bumping into furniture when you get up in the morning, which is more than I can say for most places in Penzance’s town center. The kitchen actually works for cooking real meals (not just reheating takeaway), and there’s proper counter space, which matters when you’ve been to the Saturday farmers market and want to do something with all those Cornish vegetables. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – Causewayhead doesn’t get the pub crowd noise that some of the harbor-side accommodations deal with, but you’re still close enough to hear the gulls in the morning. The Wi-Fi was solid throughout, which honestly saved me when I needed to sort out some work stuff, and parking… well, it’s Penzance, so street parking can be a bit of a dance, but the location means you’re not competing with day-trippers most of the time.
Here’s the thing that’ll probably matter most: this feels like staying in someone’s actual home rather than a sterile rental. The beds are comfortable (proper firm mattresses, not those saggy disasters you sometimes get), and there’s enough storage that you can actually unpack if you’re staying more than a couple nights. Walking to the Morrab Gardens takes about two minutes when you need some green space, and you’re practically around the corner from that excellent deli on Alverton Street – locals know the one. The 8.6 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be fancy luxury, but everything works well and the attention to detail shows. Perfect for couples or friends who want to explore west Cornwall without feeling like they’re camping, but also don’t need someone making their bed every day.

It was self catering, no breakfast supplied. The house was very well equipped, very clean, comfortable and homely. Full of personal ornaments and paintings . A home from home.
What could be improved: The only things we missed were an iron and an ironing board and a clothes maiden.Chris from United Kingdom – 7 December 2023 (9/10)
The house was delightful, warm and comfortable and tastefully decorated. Thoughtful extras like milk, biscuits etc made all the difference as we were late arriving.

Lovely house. Full of charm and thoughtfully decorated. Comfortable and well equipped. Lovely courtyard garden to the rear. The owner of the property had very thoughtfully welcomed us with cookies and Cornish chocolate on our arrival. The Causewayhead itself has some lovely shops and is very quiet in the evenings. The owner was easy to contact and extremely helpful.
What could be improved: It is not a question of not liking, but the two staircases leading to the sitting room and bedrooms are extremely steep. This makes moving suitcases a little awkward. People of a certain age who have difficulty with stairs generally should think twice before staying.
Second minor issue is parking. There are residential streets in the vicinity, but there were rarely parking spaces available. There is a short-stay carpark at the top of the Causewayhead, but it is expensive. We found ourselves having to park around 500 metres from the property. This was not particularly an issue for us, but it might be for others. The streets around the property are narrow. This is part of the very great charm of Penzance, but you need to be a confident driver. When leaving the property, you can drive down the Causewayhead to collect your cases etc., but otherwise the road is inaccessible and for pedestrians or shop owners only.Sheik from Singapore – 16 June 2023 (9/10)

Very cosy and lovely decor. So nice to come back to after a day of sightseeing. Ideally located for shops and restaurants We wanted for nothing and would have no hesitation recommending this charming house for a holiday in this gorgeous area of Cornwall.
What could be improved: Could not fault this property.Colin from United Kingdom – 24 August 2022 (9/10)
It’s typically Cornish, great location, has everything you need, nice welcom pack.
What could be improved: Stairs need care as very steep, but we expected that for the type of property in town centre.Doc from United Kingdom – 2 August 2022 (9/10)
It was very nice ☺️
What could be improved: Only 1 toilet
