Hotel Description
You know those places that surprise you right from the moment you turn onto the street? Well, that’s exactly what happened when I first found this little gem tucked away on Daglands Road. Honestly, I’d walked past The Old School Studios before without even realizing there was this gorgeous summerhouse annexe hiding in the back gardens – it’s one of those Fowey secrets that locals probably love keeping to themselves.
The whole setup is actually pretty clever. You’re staying in what feels like your own private cottage, but it’s part of these converted school buildings that have this lovely creative vibe going on. The gardens are seriously lush – I mean, proper English garden lush with those overgrown-in-the-best-way plants that make you want to grab a cup of tea and just sit outside for hours. The annexe itself has this charming, slightly weathered character that fits perfectly with Fowey’s whole aesthetic. It’s not trying too hard to be boutique-y, which I appreciate. The interiors feel lived-in and comfortable rather than sterile, though everything’s clearly been thoughtfully updated. You’ll find those little touches that matter – good lighting for reading, actually hot showers, and windows that open properly so you can hear the birds in the morning.
What really sells this place, though, is the location without feeling like you’re in the thick of tourist chaos. Daglands Road is quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep well (trust me, some of the spots closer to the harbor can get pretty lively during summer weekends), but you’re still only a few minutes’ walk from the town center. I found myself popping down to the Fowey Community College area for morning runs, then heading into town for breakfast at one of the cafés overlooking the estuary. The whole area has this relaxed, residential feel where you bump into more locals than tourists, which gives you a much better sense of what Fowey’s really like beyond the day-tripper crowds. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of town – it’s not impossible, but worth asking about when you book since the narrow streets weren’t exactly designed for modern cars. The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s got that sweet spot combination of character, comfort, and location that’s actually pretty rare. You’re getting the authentic Fowey experience without sacrificing the creature comforts, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to unwind in Cornwall.

Peaceful, clean, great location in the heart of Fowey, easy allocated parking next door, generous towels! An absolutely perfect place to stay and explore the Cornwall coast from or simply relax in the beautiful town of Fowey.
What could be improved: The shower/bath was a bit slippery to get in and out of but a rubber mat is provided and helpedTracey from United Kingdom – 15 April 2025 (9/10)
Good location, clean with good facilities.
The sofa wasn’t that comfy and property felt a little cold. That aside we had a lovely stay and would come again and recommend to others.Marcus from United Kingdom – 11 April 2025 (9/10)
Comfortable and well equipped, great location and easy parking included which is a real bonus in Fowey, beautiful little private suntrap garden and a fantastic base to discover the south coast not to mention a short walk into Fowey itself
What could be improved: Ev charger not the easiest to use (actually in the carpark would be amazing) but to be honest it was a bonus anyway so not a complaintLiz from United Kingdom – 18 March 2025 (9/10)
The location of the Summerhouse was idilic. With views out onto the lush garden. It’s a steep walk down into town, and, it felt, a steeper walk back! The car parking space was great just across a small pedestrian path, through two gates.
What could be improved: We loved itRodney from United Kingdom – 8 November 2024 (8/10)
