You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Chalet 18 when I first pulled up to Widemouth Bay Holiday Village – holiday parks can be hit or miss, honestly. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The chalet itself sits perfectly positioned where you can hear the waves without being right on top of the chaos that sometimes happens closer to the main beach area during peak summer months.

The thing about Widemouth Bay that most people don’t realize until they’re here is how different it feels from the touristy bits of Bude proper. You’re literally a five-minute drive from all the shops and cafes on Belle Vue, but it feels like you’re in your own little coastal bubble. The chalet’s got this lived-in comfort that holiday rentals often lack – proper blackout curtains (thank god), a kitchen that’s actually equipped for real cooking, not just reheating takeaway, and honestly one of the better showers I’ve had in a rental property. The whole place feels like someone’s well-loved second home rather than a sterile vacation unit.

What really sold me though was stepping out in the morning with my coffee and realizing you’ve got direct access to one of Cornwall’s best beginner-friendly surf beaches. I mean, Widemouth Bay doesn’t get the Instagram crowds that Fistral Beach does, but the surf schools here are brilliant and the beach stretches for miles when the tide’s out. The rock pools at the northern end kept my kids busy for hours – and I’m talking proper tide pools, not just puddles. Plus, and this matters if you’re traveling with gear or planning beach days, parking is actually reasonable here unlike some spots further south. The coastal path runs right behind the village too, so you can walk to Bude along the cliffs or head south toward Millook if you’re feeling ambitious. Evening walks become addictive when you’re watching the sun set over the Atlantic with hardly anyone else around. For a 4-star spot with a 9 rating, Chalet 18 earns every bit of it – it’s that sweet spot where you get proper comfort without the pretension, and location that feels both peaceful and connected to everything that makes this stretch of North Cornwall special.

  Stunning location and ideal base camp for us to visit friends in the area. Decor and upkeep of the chalet was very good.
  
  What could be improved: No wifi as far as we could tell but hey, I guess Widemouth is a dead-spot for comms as my mobile couldn't pick up a signal either. Actually came to view it as bonus to be off-grid for our break.

  From the very start of our little holiday in Chalet 18 everything was perfect , I stayed with my 2 older teenage boys who very much enjoyed the facilities & walking to the beach.
  The chalet was very clean & had everything we needed and beds were very comfy. With A good choice of dvds & books on offer.
  I was able to message the very helpful owner easily to ask questions.
  The swimming pool was lovely and the changing rooms (which were unisex ) were very clean & well organised.
  The View was spectacular!!
  The walk to the beach was approx 15 mins.

  Really well equipped kitchen, plenty of utensils, glassware, plates, cutlery, baking trays and baking dishes, I think there was even a food processor.
  
  Great to be able to bring our dog and I saw there were even dog bowls under the sink.
  
  There were loads of little extra things that were super useful like cello tape, takeaway menus, loved that there were books, games and DVDs to borrow.
  
  Very clear and helpful instructions and good communications during our stay.
  For the price we had very low expectations but it was all really lovely! The swimming pool was truly lovely, all very modern and fitted out to a high standard, the bar area was lovely too, all very tasteful. Really friendly and helpful staff.
  We spent a lot of time in the pool and my kids had a fantastic time
  
  What could be improved: Such a small thing but the lighting maybe, it was a little dim and would have been nice to be able to have the lounge more brightly lit at times

  We had a great time. The Chalet had everything we could need and was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We had lots of fun in the beautiful pool and the kids enjoyed the park even tho its very small. Excellent views of the sea and a great location for getting around. Would 100% stay again.

  Location was excellent for walking to Widemouth Bay and touring surrounding areas. I walked straight out the door and down the track to the beach. The property was very toasty. At first I was a bit surprised at the lack of wifi but it worked very well for me, I put my phone away and enjoyed the more traditional entertainment available in the property. The swimming pool was excellent and I was often the only one in there, and the onsite bar had a nice easy atmosphere.
  
  What could be improved: Notes on the property were good but sparse. I didn't understand what some of the switches were for and it took a bit of experimentation to get the shower working. The toilet is facing the bath and as a consequence leg room is minimal. No milk or tea coffee waiting when you get there so make sure you have packed them.
