Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about the Celeste? It’s perched right there in Carbis Bay where you can actually hear the waves from most rooms – not that distant ocean white noise, but the real deal. I mean, when you’re this close to one of Cornwall’s prettiest beaches, you’d hope they’d make the most of it, and honestly, they do.
The whole place feels like someone took a traditional Cornish hotel and gave it just enough modern touches without going overboard. The lobby’s got this relaxed vibe where you can actually imagine sitting with a coffee and not feeling like you’re in someone’s way. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that overly formal stuff you sometimes get. What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the area properly. When I asked about the best time to hit the beach, the guy at reception didn’t just point toward the sand but actually mentioned how the tide pools on the far end are worth exploring at low tide, and that the South West Coast Path pickup is literally a three-minute walk if you’re into hiking.
The rooms – well, mine faced the bay and I’d request that if you’re booking because the view is honestly spectacular. There’s something about watching the light change over the water throughout the day that just works. The bed was properly comfortable (you know how hotel beds can be a gamble), and the bathroom felt recently updated without being all stark and cold. Parking’s included, which around here isn’t always a given, and it’s actually adequate – I’ve stayed at places where you’re circling like a vulture hoping someone checks out. The whole property runs pretty quietly too, even during what felt like a busy weekend in summer.
What sets this place apart, though, is how it sits in Carbis Bay itself. You’re close enough to St. Ives (maybe ten minutes by car, or there’s that branch railway line that’s sort of charming) to pop over for dinner or to browse the galleries, but you’re not dealing with the crowds and parking nightmare that St. Ives can become, especially in peak season. The beach here is genuinely lovely – cleaner and less hectic than the main St. Ives beaches, with that gorgeous pale sand Cornwall’s famous for. I ended up spending way more time just walking along the water than I’d planned.
The restaurant’s solid – not trying to be too fancy, just good food with local ingredients done well. Their fish actually tastes like it came from nearby waters, if you know what I mean. Breakfast had proper variety without being overwhelming, and they seemed to accommodate dietary stuff without making a big production of it. I will say the bar area gets pleasantly busy in the evenings, so if you’re looking for total quiet, maybe just heads up on that.
Look, at this rating level you’re expecting things to work smoothly, and they do. But what makes the Celeste worth considering is how it feels like it belongs exactly where it is. It’s not trying to be some grand destination resort – it’s just a really well-run hotel in one of Cornwall’s most appealing spots, where you can fall asleep to the sound of actual waves and wake up to a view that reminds you why you came to this part of the world in the first place.

Apartment was super nice, roomy and the view to the sea was superb. Everything we needed was there and good to use. Super close to the Carbis Bay beach or the train station to St Ives. All in all a very nice experience for our family.
What could be improved: A bit dusty and the heating was a tad temperamental, one of the rooms was super cold while the others were boiling hot.Steve from United Kingdom – 12 April 2025 (9/10)
