Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places around St. Ives Bay, but this penthouse at Carbis Bay honestly surprised me. You know those apartment complexes that look decent online but feel soulless when you actually show up? This isn’t one of them. The Serena building sits right where you want to be – close enough to hear the waves but far enough back that you’re not dealing with the chaos of peak summer crowds stumbling around at midnight.
The first thing that hits you when you walk in is just how much space there is. Three proper bedrooms, which actually means three bedrooms, not some creative estate agent math where they’ve counted a closet. The sea views from the main living area are the real deal too – you’re looking straight out over Carbis Bay Beach, and on clear days you can see all the way to Godrevy Lighthouse. I mean, the morning light coming through those windows is something else. The balcony’s big enough to actually use, not just stand on awkwardly with a cup of tea. And that sauna? Honestly wasn’t expecting much, but after a day hiking the coastal path or getting battered by wind on Porthmeor Beach, it’s exactly what you need.
What I really appreciated was the attention to practical stuff that most places completely ignore. The parking space is included and it’s actually a proper space – none of this squeezing between concrete pillars nonsense. The kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook (and you should, because the seafood from the harbourside stalls in St. Ives is incredible). The whole place feels like someone actually lives there sometimes, not just a sterile rental property. You’re about a five-minute walk down to Carbis Bay Beach, which is hands-down the best family beach in the area – cleaner and less mental than Porthminster, with that gorgeous white sand that looks almost tropical when the sun hits it right. The train station is literally right there too, so you can hop on the branch line into St. Ives town centre without dealing with the parking nightmare, especially during summer when the whole peninsula turns into one giant traffic jam. It’s worth noting that Carbis Bay itself is pretty quiet in the evenings – if you’re looking for nightlife, you’ll want to head into St. Ives proper. But honestly, after spending days exploring everything from the Tate St. Ives to the hidden coves along the coast path, you’ll probably be happy to just sit on that balcony with a glass of wine, watching the fishing boats come in as the sun sets over the Atlantic.

The location was perfect, the accommodation was second to none. The quality of the furniture, the appliances was superb. Super cosy. Nothing was left unturned a very easy stress free stay. The tein line behind was so handy. Honestly I couldn't fault it. Well the steep hill……. 👀

Everything, view was amazing. The place was clean short walk /drive to the beach and could hear the waves lapping against the shore from the top bedroom very very relaxing 🥰🥰🥰
What could be improved: Nothing major at all couldn't get the sauna to work was looking forward to that after a midnight dip in the sea😁
And there was a pack of scones out of date in the welcome basket?

Stunning location and views
What could be improved: Very poorly managed, wasn’t ready on time, Wi-Fi wasn’t working, poorly equipped …. Generally a great place let down by poor management who seem to have no clue about the place … down to even what coffee pods the machine takes.Jemma from United Kingdom – 12 June 2025 (8/10)
